RUMOR: Marvel Finally Moving Forward With The SUB-MARINER - But Will It Be A Movie Or TV Series?

A new rumor suggests that Marvel may finally have something in the works involving Namor: The Sub Mariner, that's scheduled to shoot in Hawaii at some point in the future. More details after the jump...

For a long time, it was unclear which studio actually owned the rights to Namor, but last year Marvel CCO Joe Quesada finally seemed to clear things up once and for all: The Savage Sub-Mariner is under the Marvel Studios umbrella. Since then, however, we haven't really had any indication that they had plans for the character, but a new rumor doing the rounds indicates that this may be about to change.

Following last week's news that The Inhumans was scheduled to film on their shores at a new Marvel studio in Oahu, Reel News Hawaii now reckon there are also plans for a live-action Namor project.

While this "buzz" might not amount to anything, they did get some solid info on The Inhumans show, so this could be worth paying attention to.

Assuming there is something to it, are we talking about a movie of a television series? Given the fact that we haven't heard any whispers of Namor swimming onto the big screen (is an Infinity War introduction a possibility?), my guess is it's something TV related - and taking into account the fact that The Inhumans is gearing up to shoot in the same area, is it possible Reel News Hawaii's wires were crossed and The Sub-Mariner will actually feature in that show?

All speculation at this point, but be sure to let us know what you make of this in the comments section.

@webdude1 - I've just been re-reading the comics. Would love that to happen... But the cabal would be amazing.

@webdude1 - Would make for an interesting story arc, but I wonder if they would change the name? I'm only saying this because of the fact that the Illuminati are a popular conspiracy theory that everyone know, and even some actually believe in.

@PrimitiveMan - I think they should keep it. The Illuminati in the comics serves the same role for superheroes its allegedly-real-life counterpart serves for government. Giving it that name also helps to emphasize just how morally-questionable the organization is.

@BillMurray - Fair point, I'll concede because you're right.

That being said though, I'm still worried how it might do based on what I mentioned earlier.

@PrimitiveMan - I think it'll do well. I'm sure the conspiracy theorists will eat something like this up if it explores the moral grey it operates in and Orwellian elements I'm hoping it would. It can be controversial, yes. But certainly insightful.

@webdude1 - Cumberbatch did throw out the Illuminati name while doing press gigs for Doctor Strange.

Might be super hush hush and in the works... maybe that is what Marvel got from Fox in exchange for TV rights... FF.
And maybe that has something to do with the unnamed later phase movies already with dates reserved.

Could these Phase 4 movies be FF, Namor and the Illuminati??

Namor starts as an adversary, and releases super villains from the RAFT so he can bring balance to the earth. FF appears and Sue makes Namor lose focus. All this while Infinity War is going on in the background so the Avengers, etc.. are not immediately available to address Namor.

Marvel Studios is too busy with Infinity War, so I'm guessing Namor will be in The Inhumans TV show. The best option would be a Netflix series!
