4. Supercrooks
Like almost all of Mark Millar's work, Supercrooks is a unique story which you can't help but wonder why no else had thought of before. A washed up team of villains (and one superhero, who has been blackmailed into joining them) assemble to pull off a daring heist on "The Bastard", a terrifying baddie who these guys are foolish to try and rip off. That doesn't stop them trying though, and this short series was packed full of great character moments, not to mention a lot of fun twists and turns.
Nacho Vigalando has been attached to direct before the first issue of the comic was released, and Leinil Yu's artwork shows to some extent exactly who they have in mind for some key roles. Unfortunately, we've heard nothing about this one for some time so it now heading to Netflix seems highly likely. Given the premise, Supercrooks would probably work best as a movie but there are ways the story could be stretched out to make it an episodic drama along the lines of Daredevil and Jessica Jones.
1. Starlight
Imagine if you found yourself transported to a far away planet, saved it, but returned home only to find that no one believes you? That's the problem faced by Duke McQueen, but decades later, the unappreciated family man once again finds himself drafted into action on the alien world. As an old man, how can he now hope to be the hero he once was? This is a fun adventure tale very much along the lines of Flash Gordon or John Carter, and a lot different to much of Mark Millar's darker work.
Beautifully illustrated by Goran Parlov, it's no surprise that the movie rights have already been picked up but it's another adaptation we've not heard much about lately. X-Men: Dark Phoenix's Simon Kinberg is producing, with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story writer Gary Whitta attached to write. The comic book series felt a tad rushed so it would be nice to see Starlight given the chance to breathe over the course of a thirteen part series.
