NEMESIS Is Finally Happening As Warner Bros. Put It Into Active Development

Nemesis has seemingly been stuck in development hell for years now, but after being stuck in limbo at 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros. have now acquired the Mark Millar/Steve McNiven series and put it into active development. Who's directing? Hit the jump for further details...

At this point, a number of Mark Millar's creator owned comic books have been successfully brought to the big screen, with pretty much every other single one he's written also in various stages of development. One of the best - Nemesis - still hasn't been adapted, though the sad death of original director Tony Scott had at least something to do with that. Since then, The Grey director Joe Carnahan has rewritten the screenplay with his brother Matthew Michael Carnahan, and the former is now confirmed to direct (he was also attached to helm Nemesis when it was at Fox).

While it had been at 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros. are now developing the project with Scott Free. It's a little strange to see the movie at the studio considering their ties to DC Comics because Nemesis was actually published through Marvel's Icon imprint in 2010. "Nemesis follows the devious exploits of billionaire genius Matt Anderson. Deemed the world’s greatest fighter, Anderson is hell-bent on avenging the death of his parents, who were notorious villains themselves. Traveling the world as a costumed menace, killing cops and toppling order, Anderson returns to Washington to kickstart a campaign of terror against the police chief who captured his parents, all building up to a tremendously bloody finale." Are you looking forward to finally seeing this become a movie? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on this news below.

This movie is gonna be dope tho. Warner Bros, Mark Millar, and Joe Carnahan. Just need a kick-ass composer and this movie is all set to fly high.

Ugh.

UGH.

UGGGGGHHHHH.

So Warner Bros. is going to be spending millions of dollars and devoting hundreds of people's creative energies to producing what is essentially a cynical, hyper-violent Batman knock-off movie. In addition to putting out Batman v. Superman. And a rumored trilogy of solo Batman films.

DAMMIT, WARNER BROS.! You can make a good superhero movie without using f%$#ing BATMAN all the time! And superhero movies can work without being dark and brooding at the cost of all else! It IS possible! Just ask Marvel Studios!

@The Fox,

What the f.uck are you talking about?
WB is giving us Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, Cyborg, Shazam, GLC, Aquaman, Sandman, and Justice League films, not to mention Flash, Supergirl, and Arrow on TV. It's not all about Batman.

But I get it. Spider-man gets yet ANOTHER reboot with Marvel, with 3+ movies of his own that push back newer characters and you get on your knees and fellate Feige.

WB gives Affleck two more solo films and your ass bleeds all over the virtual floor. Stick a Playtex in it.

"Hey, everybody! Let's all go watch 'Unrepentant Violent Murderer: The Movie'!"

Seriously, what is the goddamn appeal of Nemesis? The guy is nothing but a cruel, sadistic, violent monster... and while there is technically a hero to this story, the vicious psychopath is the marquee character that they play up as being the guy to read the books for. And of course, the plot synopsis for the movie names him-- and ONLY him-- as the main character. He's a villain! He's a monster! WHY ARE THEY MAKING A MOVIE ABOUT HIM?!?

I mean, at least the Punisher has the dubious moral loophole that the only people he kills are criminals who, by his measure, "deserve it". THIS guy is all about hurting innocent people for no good reason, and causing destruction and chaos just for the hell of it. It's easily the most twisted, shallow, exploitative title of all of Mark Millar's "Millarworld" books... Why would ANYONE like this story?

I really hope this never makes it to theaters. The last thing we need in the CBM landscape is a multi-million-dollar celebration of sadism and cruelty.
