ZATANNA Movie Writer Emerald Fennell Has Finished Writing NEMESIS Screenplay According To Mark Millar

A Nemesis movie has been in the works for what feels like forever, and Mark Millar has now confirmed that Promising Young Woman director Emerald Fennell has finished penning the screenplay for the project.

Last September, we learned that Project Power directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman had signed up to direct the Nemesis movie based on Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's controversial series. It was also mentioned that Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) was writing the screenplay, and the Kick-Ass scribe has now shared an update.

"Emerald Fennell, who just won an Oscar for best screenplay for Promising Young Woman, has just delivered the latest draft of the Nemesis screenplay," Millar told Forbidden Planet TV, "which is extremely cool, especially after the initial development of the movie by the late Tony Scott, who established some amazing visual ideas for the movie!"

Fennell has also been tapped to write Zatanna for Warner Bros., so she has some comic book credentials.

However, a logline revealed last year confirmed that this take will have little in common with the source material as it's set to follow a genius engineer who witnesses the President of the United States commit a deadly crime. He then teams up with a vigilante to take down the President and his corrupt government.

In Millar's story, Nemesis basically had all of Batman's resources with The Joker's personality and went on a mission that saw him wreak havoc across the globe, matching wits with a police detective and committing a series of heinous crimes.

Last year, the writer took to social media to say, "I'm at Netflix [and] not involved, but they seem to be doing very much their own thing with it." It seems he's happy with Fennell's work, though, even if this Nemesis promises to be a very different beast (then again, watching a villain commit mass murder and artificially impregnate a cop's daughter with her brother's baby might not have worked on screen).

We'll keep you updated on this one as we learn more.

Just based on the information of this article, it will either

Not get made

Or

Be turned into more of a Deadpool type thing

@dracula - id be fine with either, since I'd rather not have the "inject daughter with fathers sperm" plot to be shown anywhere.

@Origame - yeah that just seems needlessly edgy. Never read the comic. From what ive heard most of his work is needlessly edgy now.

With both him and snyder at netflix, maybe they should set up a meeting

Not sure why they're still calling this nemesis since it looks like they're completely ignoring the comic book, but as long as it's good then I'm fine with it. But I don't know, I have yet to finish jupiter's legacy and that doesn't look that great, so we'll see.

To me it sounds like the vigilante in the movie might be the Nemesis from the comic and the movie is told from another character's point of view. Still doesn't like my cup of tea though

When I first heard of an attempt to make Nemesis into a movie my interest was really up since the comic is such a different take on the genre, but seeing as how they seem to be straying so far from the source material, not so much.

You can adapt the comic without the impregnation bit. That synopsis sounds like garbage. I've been excited for Nemesis for years. I hope it's good.

Mark Millar stuff it's pretty cinematic, I don't know why they want to reinvent the wheel.
