History Channel Eyes Show About Exorcist Jesus

The History Channel had a larger than expected spike in ratings with its miniseries, "The Bible." Now it looks like they are seeking to recreate that with a show focusing on Jesus from his days as an exorcist. Hit the jump for more details.

I am not what many would call a religious person, but there are two parts of The New Testament particularly fascinate me. Both of them are, literally, what isn't actually there. They are the parts before Jesus was curing people's illnesses and feeding thousands of people, and after he was resurrected, where it abruptly ends by saying, "and he performed many more miracles," before adding that it was basically too long to write down.



Regardless, it looks like a trio of horror guys: Scott Kosar (The Machinist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror) and producers Eli Roth (the Hostel franchise) and Eric Newman (The Thing), both producers on The Last Exorcism, are looking to fill in the blanks of what happened to Jesus between the ages of 13 to 30 with their show, "The Lost Years." However because it is so early in development, it is not known to be a full series or just another miniseries.

Kosar is repped by Verve, Magnolia Entertainment and Howard Fishman. Roth and Newman are with CAA.

This is gonna be LAME, if that History Channel Miniseries- albeit well-watched- is any indication. I can't believe how eager for several random/unnecessary moments of violence that show was. To say nothing of its other flaws. Just generally tasteless.

It probably wasn't that eventful. He likely led the life of any other Jewish male during that century. They will probably have him be a sword weilding Gladiator before becoming "enlightened" and leading a movement.

@priest Since a lot of his story is taken directly from older religions you'd most likely be correct. If we ever lived, most of his story is a good old legend.
With that said, this is a stupid idea. People will get offended and the people who wouldn't and can still enjoy this idea are very few.

This is a cheap gimmick intended expressly for garnering support and popularity. Nothing like hitting the "Jesus Button" to make people want to blindly throw money at you.

The oldest tale of a Jesus that features no supernatural occurrence is a pretty simplistic tale. Around 90BCE, a merkabah-practicing man, daughter of Miriam the hairdresser, brings the art of Egyptian tattooing to Lum. He gets caught tattooing himself and his brothers on the Sabbath. In most versions he tattooed the name of god on his thigh. He stands trial, is given 40 days to prove his tattoos give him power, he cannot, and he and his 6 brothers are stoned and hanged. The name Yeshu is used in the records as an acronym that means his real name has been stricken from the record (it was blasphemous to record a blasphemers name in the law books which were considered holy).
Even the New Testament and Apocrypha feature references to Jesus having a thigh tattoo and the story ties perfectly into the tales of Rome's favorite magician Simon, which probably means that this mundane legal case is where the legend of Jesus began.

Interestingly enough, DC's new revamp of Zauriel is covered in tattoos, and Phantom Stranger keeps remarking how familiar he seems, as if he's known him his whole life.

Jesus was the first and only real super hero he could walk on water , levitate , raise the dead , calm storms , do battle with evil spirits and rise from the dead to another realm and some of you ask why is this story here ?

I don't ask why this story is on here because jesus is not and was not the first "superhero"...actually the fact that he is/was "god" incarnate has yet to be proven. It's all a great story and translates to film well, but nothing tangible has been laid on the table. And the bible hardly qualifies. It's just as likely that he and his people were advanced astronauts from planet "where ever"?!? Come on ladies and gentlemen, lets be real here. No more is this trying to fit in with the "approved pattern of thought" crowd. I'll watch the series

If what you say is accurate, then perhaps we should make more articles about gods and mythological figures since they could be classified as superheroes. How about Ahura Mazda or Mithra? They where around long before someone came up with the Jesus story. And what evidence do you have to say that Jesus was the first and only real super hero? And no, the bible doesn't count as reliable evidence.

Most of Jesus' miracles are swiped from Roman tales about Simon's magic tricks, and he was pretty open about being an illusionist. Even Peter remarked that Simon's flying act was done on wires. (recalling the moment in the Toldot when Jesus and Judas have a flying contest before a crowd and get tangled up in the air with Judas breaking his leg).
It's not real magic. Simon was the original David Copperfield.

Is there a reason why the History channel have shifted their focus to exclusively things that do not pertain to history? Aliens, Atlantis, Bigfoot and now Jesus. Wow.

John was a Mithrite, so it's no surprise that he stole the entire "son of god and a virgin" story from the Mithraic religion (which was celebrating christmas virgin births and drinking saviour blood centuries before anyone had ever heard the term Christ. In fact, many historians believe the original gospel of John was a Mithra gospel and had the names changed much later by Hellenic christians. It's all about as authentic as Ancient Aliens.
