Last night, Dave Gibbons mentioned to Digital Spy that some people behind the scenes in Hollywood were eyeing this comic book series that was written by Frank Miller and illustrated by Gibbons himself.
"There's been nothing picked up,” he admitted. “There was a series I did with Frank Miller called Martha Washington, which in fact is longer than Watchmen, it's about 500 pages. Frank's enjoying a certain amount of success in Hollywood and I wouldn't be surprised if something happens with that. I think that would make a great movie. People misunderstand Frank, they think he's very grim and right-wing, but he's got his tongue very firmly in his cheek. Martha Washington is a war story but it's quite satirical and I think has a strange resonance with what's happening in the world today."
Frank Miller was also intrigued by this project stating, "it is just a matter of time and finding the right venue."
If The Spirit and any other Frank Miller project over the next year does well, I can definately see shooting for this film to begin in late '09, or early 2010. I never really got around to reading all the Martha Washington's myself, but I guess I should read it thoroughly so I can complain how much unlike the comic it is whenever I watch it on the big screen... in 2010. -saintc
