More Marvel Movie Info From Kevin Feige!

FirstShowing.net recently sat down with Feige for an in depth interview. Paramount asked that the first part of the interview, which Jman reported, be pulled down, but In lieu of that, here are some BIG reveals from 2nd interview...

On "Iron Man 2"

Apparently they're halfway done with shooting, and almost all of the dialogue is finished being shot, with the next six weeks dedicated to action. Feige talked highly of Rourke and Sam Rockwell's involvement as villains, he also dropped an interesting hint about Scarlett Johansson. He said her character has "two sides" - her entrance is as an assistant to Tony Stark, but she is later revealed to be a character named Black Widow. Sounds like Widow will be following her story arc from the comics and be betraying Stark after all.

On "Thor"

Feige confirmed that Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston were OFFICIALLY cast in Thor. He spoke very highly about both actors, but focused more on Hiddleston, who plays the villain Loki. Feige explained that finding a classic villain that could be sustained over the course of many films and provide the hero with a challenge while also being a mirror of that hero himself was very tough. "Loki has those aspects." He also did say that Thor takes place on both modern Earth and other worlds like Asgard, confirming what we heard the other day about Donald Blake NOT being a part of the story and the setting be primarily Earth. And lastly, he said that director Kenneth Branagh would not let them use any classic Shakespearian dialogue like was often used in the comics. Sounds pretty Ultimate to me!

On "The First Avenger: Captain America"

Feige confirmed that it's "primarily" a period piece that takes place during WWII. He said they went and looked at Raiders of the Lost Ark, which he says he "didn't know" was a period piece when he was watching it. They want to make Captain America with the "same level of fun" as that. And in regards to director Joe Johnston, he said that this would be a little bit of The Rocketeer, lots of October Sky, and a little bit of the ship designs that Johnston did for Star Wars, alluding to how this is the perfect movie for him to direct. "It's the movie his entire career has been leading towards."

He also confirmed that Bucky Barnes would indeed be in Captain America. When asked if he'll appear, Feige said "it's a safe bet" that he'd be in the movie "in some capacity".

We know that Iron Man 2 is up next, then Thor, then Captain America, then The Avengers in the summer of 2012. Feige said that they're "ordered this way for a reason." And confirmed that Samuel Jackson and Scarlett Johansson as well as Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are signed on for multiple movies or "multiple franchises," further extending that hint that Loki will be a villain who shows up quite often. Feige kept saying often that he'd love for audiences to have the same experience that comic book readers have - where characters make surprise appearances almost out of nowhere in issues they pick up.

Pretty cool news im sure you will agree! Lets hope we can keep these updates on the site this time!

At first glance it all looks like good news to me. Refreshing, and encouraging! Talk of recurring villains and having Hemsworth confirmed for Thor are both great.

I'm a tad dissapointed about the ban on using Shakespeareian style dialogue in Thor, but Branagh has an excellent understanding of dialogue (demonstrated in past films) and I'm sure he knows there are ways of making a character's speech sound different, and less modern, without coming ten yards from 'thee' and 'thou'. Here's to hoping he utilizes those skills.

SirPrize,
A good point about setting a standard. I can't help but think that if they nail Thor, and Captain America (and eventually Avengers) then what they'll have created then is a cogent universe for these films and characters. At that point, really, when you have that many blockbuster style movies sharing a single mythos it could open the door for a lot of minor, interesting characters to get a movie just by virtue of sharing that universe. Come to think of it, I'm not sure that's ever been done in film before. Not across multiple characters/franchises that way. Am I wrong?

So Star Trek's (2009) George Kirk is Thor. I liked this guys presence and what I saw in that film. Can he really be larger than life for Thor? I hope it works out.

Nice article, but I'm disappointed that there was no mention of the Dr. Strange movie slated for 2012. Apparently, Neil Gaiman is working on the screen play. Here's hoping Bruce Campbell will be the Sorcerer Supreme!!!

ElBicho @ I'd luv BRUCIE to be a MARVEL hero or villain, but not STRANGE!!! I think the guys cool, ive even had a beer wiv him but i cant see him as the Sorcerer Supreme.

I still say JOHNNY DEPP!!! (Or a UNKNOWN).

Marvel studios has a good thing going, Iron Man is the bar they've set, let see if the rest of the industry will follow.

really, really good news, the fact that there is gonna be no olde kind of speech isn't bad news. Branagh is a shaksperian actor so i'm sure he has a lot of ideas and methods to use to keep it other worldly.

As for a Doctor Strange movie, johnny depp is cool and could probably do, but i would rather Daniel Day Lewis.

Johnny Depp is THE man to play Dr. Strange. That is not an opinion, that is pure objective fact. Look it up.

I was liking the pattern they had going with Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk with (almost) all of the main actors having been at least nominated for an Academy Award. Looks like they broke that pattern with Thor. They also got actors way younger than their Avenger co-stars. I mean RDJ is about 20 years older than Chris Hemsworth..
But I'm sure it will all work out, it will all be epic.

(P.S. Buck Barnes FTW! I have to find the casting auditions for this role!)

I think my faith in humanity has been broken! Branagh you betrayed us! No Shakespeare?!?!?!? I'll give Branagh another chance, before I get the rifle out.

It seems that they are putting the Ultimate characters into the classic Marvel stories.

sirprize that is possibly one of the funniest things i have ever seen..the intercom..

"You fackin C#nt"..lmfao

I knew they would ditch the "Thee and Thou". It would have been fine in Asgard, but could you imagine how silly it would have sounded with the other characters?

Nick Fury: "Cmon Thor, im thirsty as a mother[frick]er, lets go get a drink bitch"

Thor: "Thee dost not knoweth to whom thou dost talketh!"

Fury: "What did this blond bitch just say to me?"

to be honest wheather the shakespearian language works in the comics don mean sh*** this is a movie and it has to translate and the producers are obz smart enuff to realize

i think sum1 said before that maybe a diff type of language can b used for thor..how bowt the way they spoke in 300? it wasnt exactly shakespear and i'll b darned if i heard any1 talk like that in the street without gettin the p** taken out of

well I guess its good news, bad news. no shakespearean talkin? that sucks, i was lookin forward to thor yellin "Have at thee" then slingin mjolnir across the screen. everything else is good news. Staying faithful to the widows first appearance, which means they can also sneak in hawkeye if they wanna glad bucky will at least have a cameo
thanks sirprize, i think bick vader is my new hero. that was very well done, whoever did it. and I'm with you ror, the intercom thing bout made me fall out o my chair.

At least they're starting to actually talk about Captain America. Let's hope it's more Raiders of the Lost Ark than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Anton Yelchin for Bucky.
