The comic follows the adventures of a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for a feared mobster. The stories have a paranormal and comedic edge to them and concern ghosts, zombies, mad scientists and "skunk apes."

With plenty of source material to choose from in the Goon cannon — from the Eisner Award-winning “The Goon: Chinatown” original graphic novel to the controversial “Satan’s Sodomy Baby” one-shot — Powell noted the need for compromise in crafting a cohesive Goon script.

“Obviously the comic is not set up where you can do a direct adaptation,” Powell told MTV News. “The issues are too episodic, and it’s basically a bunch of individual stories that link to a bigger story. So we’re having to take the gist of ‘The Goon’ and condense it into a format that works as a film.”

It’s too early to know which of The Goon’s specific tales might be included in the film, but Powell told MTV that any restructuring of the final stories wouldn’t result in re-imagined characters, and that any plot modifications would merely serve the screenplay.

“There are a few little changes we’re throwing in here and there just to make it work as a film, but we’re not overhauling it or turning it upside down just for the sake of being different or turning it into a movie,” said Powell.

Ain't-It-Cool-News has posted new photos from The Goon, the David Fincher(Fight Club)-produced, CG-animated adaptation of Eric Powell's Dark Horse comic book.

haha yeah that would be cool crush

Even though I don't know much of anything about The Goon, I am getting tired of all those corny 3D/talking animal movies for kids...except Dreamworks and Pixar's 3d movies, they're usually pretty funny

But yes, it would be great to see more 3D animated movies for adults. And it's nice that they did this cuz they can't go wrong with making the characters =D

Seems that comic book movies are starting to be made correctly. Pretty awesome!

I remember when this comic came out. I met Powell at a convention that first year and had one of my #1's signed, as well as snagging a piece of original art. It's cool that a movie is being made and even cooler that it's animated.

I am joining CRUSH's bandwagon.

Haven't read the comic, but I hear good things. I do agree that some comic book movies should have been animated but not all.

Nice. I hate an autographed Goon art print framed in the dining room. right next to the german 1931 Frankenstein poster.

no joke.

Damn i hope this does good, plan on reading the comic soon. After this, someone better as hell do Bone in CG, as long as they don't screw it up and try to do the whole series in one movie.

Hahaha, this looks to be tons of fun. CG is the perfect choice for Goon. Hell, I would love if they would be able to spin off a show from this in CG ala Clone Wars. Spike TV would eat that up. Or HBO if it was too dark.

This looks gorgeous, the character design is perfect, and the CG looks like they put a lot of effort into it (make it look real yet cartoony).

Apparently 2009-2010 could be the start of the industry making more adult oriented animation, the 9 also looks promising, and although not exactly adult themed the atmosphere for that looks fairly grown up.

i have never read Goon but i have flipped through an issue and liked what i saw and this is like dead on with the art from the book. Bubastis I'm with you, they really should do Bone in this same style i would be there for that at a midnight showing if there was one, i also agree with Falcon on if this is good they should continue it in a series like CW it would be far off from now it took them forever to do CW because of the epic graphics.

It is. I havnt read too much, just a few issues and a graphic novel but it really sucks you in. The characters are just insane but you find yourself rooting for them regardless. Its a great horror comic mixed with comedy and extreme violence!

I'm thinking Mickey Rourke or Ron Perlman for the Goon and Joe Pesci or John Leguizamo for Franky.
