A Point of Geeks report
Welcome back for another edition of the Point of Geeks' Media Roundup, for the month's best upcoming movies! There are a wide variety of films coming in November, so hopefully we have a flavor for whatever your taste happens to be. From the return of Katniss Everdeen and Lloyd Christmas, to powerful dramas, trips through the cosmos and back to San Fransokyo, it's sure to be an awesome month of movie watching. November 5
Plot Synopsis: "Interstellar" chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors of his generation period. He is one of the rare talents who simply does not make a bad movie. They range from "pretty good" to "absolutely mind-blowing on multiple levels." And they typically fall into the latter range. Aside from his exceptional storytelling, he has been a trailblazer for the usage of IMAX cameras in narrative films as well. After seeing his visuals for Gotham City, the dream world of Inception, watching a Nolan story set in space unfold on a 75 foot tall screen, seems like a good way to spend two hours. November 7
Plot Synopsis: From Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind "Frozen" and "Wreck-It Ralph," comes "Big Hero 6," an action-packed comedy-adventure about the special bond that develops between Baymax (voice of Scott Adsit), a plus-sized inflatable robot, and prodigy Hiro Hamada (voice of Ryan Potter). When a devastating event befalls the city of San Fransokyo and catapults Hiro into the midst of danger, he turns to Baymax and his close friends adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago (voice of Jamie Chung), neatnik Wasabi (voice of Damon Wayans Jr.), chemistry whiz Honey Lemon (voice of Genesis Rodriguez) and fanboy Fred (voice of T.J. Miller). Determined to uncover the mystery, Hiro transforms his friends into a band of high-tech heroes called "Big Hero 6."
Here is the deal. Disney took one of Marvel's lesser known titles, Big Hero 6, and adapted it for the big-screen in their own image. The advanced buzz on this movie has been through the roof. The word is that it combines Marvel awe, with Disney's charm and heart. The trailers seem a little silly, but understanding that there is more under the hood has gotten me excited. Looks like the hands-down best family viewing film of the month.
The Theory of Everything
Plot Summary: Starring Eddie Redmayne ("Les Misérables") and Felicity Jones ("The Amazing Spider-Man 2"), this is the extraordinary story of one of the world’s greatest living minds, the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who falls deeply in love with fellow Cambridge student Jane Wilde. Once a healthy, active young man, Hawking received an earth-shattering diagnosis at 21 years of age. With Jane fighting tirelessly by his side, Stephen embarks on his most ambitious scientific work, studying the very thing he now has precious little of – time. Together, they defy impossible odds, breaking new ground in medicine and science, and achieving more than they could ever have dreamed. The film is based on the memoir "Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen," by Jane Hawking, and is directed by Academy Award winner James Marsh ("Man on Wire").
I actually never really considered what Stephen Hawkings' life was like in his younger years. It always felt like he came here to visit us lowly humans from a different planet. The movie is getting a strong buzz based on the performance of Eddie Redmayne and allegedly Hawkings saw the movie and cried. :( I don't like to cry, but if I am in the mood too, I will probably check this out.

Plot Synopsis: Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: "Dumb and Dumber To." The original film’s directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given.

This has to be a disappointment, right? How can these two possibly recapture the magic of the first film.? Well...who gives a crap? It's awesome that this even exists. Everyone involved in the production could use some career rejuvenation, so hopefully the movie will end up being more inspired then it seems. The question is, did they hold all the really funny stuff from marketing? If so, we should be in for a ridiculously dumb time. Wait...whaa?
Plot Synopsis: "Rosewater" is based on The New York Times best-selling memoir "Then They Came for Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival," written by Maziar Bahari. The film marks the directorial debut of "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart, and stars Gael García Bernal.
Rosewater follows the Tehran-born Bahari, a broadcast journalist with Canadian citizenship. In June 2009, Bahari returned to Iran to interview Mir-Hossein Mousavi, who was the prime challenger to president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. As Mousavi's supporters rose up to protest Ahmadinejad's victory declaration hours before the polls closed, Bahari endured personal risk by sending footage of the street riots to the BBC. Bahari was arrested by police, led by a man identifying himself only as "Rosewater," who tortured and interrogated him over the next 118 days.
With Bahari's wife leading an international campaign to have her husband freed, and Western media outlets keeping the story alive, Iranian authorities released Bahari on $300,000 bail and the promise he would act as a spy for the government.
It's a familiar notion that deep down, comedians are serious people. Well the Daily Show's Jon Stewart is making an unexpected career move for his first directorial effort, by choosing a heart-wrenching prisoner drama. Clearly he is taking the news he reports on to heart and this is one of the stories he felt compelled to tell. I hope it's good...but not too good. We wouldn't want him leaving the Daily Show anytime soon.

Plot Synopsis: The worldwide phenomenon of "The Hunger Games" continues to set the world on fire with "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1," which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage. "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Danny Strong and Peter Craig and produced by Nina Jacobson's Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the third in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins that has over 65 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.
Who am I kidding? Not much need to explain this one. Either you are on-board with Katniss Everdeen's quest or your not by now.

Horrible Bosses 2
Plot Synopsis: Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick, Dale and Kurt decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business in "Horrible Bosses 2." But a slick investor soon pulls the rug out from under them. Outplayed and desperate, and with no legal recourse, the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor's adult son and ransom him to regain control of their company.
Horrible Bosses was a surprise comedy that caught many off-guard. Well they brought back the team and the supporting cast featuring, Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Aniston, and Kevin Spacey! What can go wrong? A whole lot, but I will probably go and find out.
The Penguins of Madagascar
Plot Synopsis: Super spy teams aren't born…they're hatched. Discover the secrets of the greatest and most hilarious covert birds in the global espionage biz: Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private. These elitists of the elite are joining forces with a chic undercover organization, The North Wind. Led by handsome and husky Agent Classified (we could tell you his name, but then…you know), voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch. Together, they must stop the villainous Dr. Octavius Brine, voiced by John Malkovich, from destroying the world as we know it.
Penguins of Madagascar Clip - "Antartica"
Madagascar is a hugely successful franchise that goes under the radar. They are spinning off the penguins and are creating their own Madagascar Cinematic Universe. Ugg. The spy angle is what looks intriguing to me, but ultimately, I'm going to pass. It's an understandable pick for the family to go to however.
