It takes a lot to make Stan Lee speechless, but Joe Maddalena, the owner of the Profiles in History auction house and star of Syfy's new series Hollywood Treasure, found a way to do it—by showing the co-creator of Spider-Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four and other Marvel superheroes some original art he hadn't seen in more than four decades.

Maddalena had gotten his hands on the original artwork to Fantastic Four #12 from 1963, which featured the first meeting of the Hulk and the Fantastic Four and is apparently the first crossover in the Marvel Universe ever.

The thing that astonished Lee the most? His own notes scribbled along the margins of the artwork, which he considers just as rare as the artwork itself, since they were usually erased.

Watch the extended interview from Hollywood Treasure below, including footage that won't be seen on TV, as Lee is awed to be reunited with Jack Kirby's artwork after so many years.

@grif: Stop trying to be the cool kid by hating on a legend. What you fail to realize is that when you pioneer a company like Marvel, you have no other option. Once your company has reached a level where you need several people to run it, a board is created and the decisions no longer fall on just you. In some cases they aren't up to you at all anymore

Stan's awesome. He makes me feel a bit uncomfortable though when he's trying to be "cool". Kirby FTW.

That was great to see. That wasn't Stan being the usual pitchman and one-man hype machine, which he's been good at (and possibly better known for in some circles) for decades. You could see the genuine joy and excitement in his reactions to what they showed him.

Awesome stuff.
