"Where The Wild Things Are" Movie Poster & Test Footage

Where the Wild Things Are is an upcoming 2009 film adaptation of the Maurice Sendak children's book of the same name. The film will be directed by Spike Jonze and written by Dave Eggers. The film will combine live action, suitmation, animatronics and CGI. Its release is currently scheduled for October 16, 2009.

The film concerns the imaginary adventures of a young boy named Max, who is angry after being sent to his room without supper. He then creates a forest inhabited by many large imaginary monsters, who crown him their ruler. He then befriends a large monster called Carol, who helps him understand the meaning of love. Directed by Spike Jonze (Adaptation,Jackass) the cast includes: Catherine Keener, Max Records, Mark Ruffalo, Lauren Ambrose, Chris Cooper, James Gandolfini, Catherine O'Hara & Forest Whitaker.

Looks amazing..Spike Jonze is a legend. But i didnt know all the monsters are imaginary! I hate that..is the kid gonna wake up at the end and it was all a dream?

sweet, for some reason i'm really excited for this movie, probably because it's one that looks to be exactly like the source material, reagardless of the story, I'm a fan of that!

The plot of the book is based on the fantasy (and real) consequences of a little boy's mischief. One night Max dresses up in his wolf suit and does all kinds of things he shouldn't, like chasing the dog with a fork. His mother scolds him and calls him a "WILD THING!" Max is so mad he shouts back, "I'LL EAT YOU UP!" As a result, his mother sends him to his bedroom without any supper.
Max's imagination transforms his bedroom into an extraordinary setting, with a forest and an ocean and a little boat that Max sails in until he comes to a land full of "wild things." Although they look and sound very fierce, Max is able to tame them with a single glance. They all realize Max is "..the most wild thing of all" and make him their king. Max and the wild things have a fine time creating a rumpus until Max begins to want to be "…where someone loved him best of all." Max's fantasy ends when he smells his dinner. Despite the wild things' protests, Max sails back to his own room where he finds his supper waiting for him.

i knew this movie would be awesome, then i saw paul dano, forest whitaker and tom hanks names. i hope its 3d.

The puppeteering for Carol looks great. More puppets/muppets less CGI I say!

Also, I don't think by "sound scary" they meant the monsters to sound like creepy child stalkers. :D

If that opening sequence is fake, someone has way to much skill to be wasting it on Youtube videos.

Awesome...its great to see actual, physical monsters in film again instead of completely CG creations. I'll check that shit out.

I don't care if this is a comic book adaptation, and maybe it's the kid inside of me but this movie looks dope. I agree with the lot of you...less CGI is more

I remember reading this book when I was younger. I thought it was awesome! LOL But I had since forgot about it…But one day I saw a commercial about Ravioli or Spaghetti, I’m not sure lol, and they had a guy dressed up in a monster suit that looked very similar to the books monster. And I was like “Cool! That reminds me of the book. It'd be awesome if they made a live-action movie about it.” And now, THEY HAVE! I probably won’t go see it in theatres, but ill definitely see it anyway. :D

wow looks like an amazing movie! Well adapted from the book. I remember my teachers reading this to me when I was a little kid. This book was everywhere haha It looks like a great movie though, and I really like that they used puppets!
