WHO IS WINNING?
If you are the kind of person who has clicked on this article in hopes to bash someone for their love of Marvel or you just know that you wanted to come in here and announce how much better DC is doing, here's a suggestion: get over yourself.
After reading countless "winning" editorials, seeing incessant fans clogging the fan-fic section with movie posters for their side, or rolling my eyes at hundreds of biased comments, I would have to say that I have successfully figured out who is winning the CBM game....
THE FANS
Let me break down why.
MARVEL STUDIOS
Marvel has tried very hard to release several (so far 10) films that link up with one another to form an expanded universe with solo stories and team-up films. The tone is highly comedic for the most part, but there is still plenty of straight-from-the-page action. They've had some duds and they've had some treasures. Regardless, they took the CBM game to a new level. They are sure to take this even further by bringing Thanos to Earth after adding even more heroes to their roster.
DC/WARNER BROS
After the Dark Knight trilogy, DC decided they needed to start up a franchise that wasn't centered around Christian Bale's realistic Batman. Their next film, Man Of Steel, had mixed reactions, but it is very safe to say that over 95% of fans and movie-goers alike share the sentiment that it washed the bad taste out that Superman Returns left in our mouths. After relative success, DC decided to shoot for the stars and announce a movie that fans didn't even know they wanted until that fateful day: Batman vs Superman. A new Batman, a new tone, and hints of several other DC heroes, the upcoming BVS:DOJ is sure to delight us regardless of some potential flaws it may carry.
SONY
A similar situation to DC's refreshing Batman, Sony quickly decided to reboot its Spider-Man franchise after the poorly received Spider-Man 3, despite a decent first movie and an even better Spider-Man 2. Hardcore fans are very much against this new take on Peter Parker as he is "a semi-intelligent, yet confident hipster." However, I can see Marc Webb just trying to appeal to a new generation of fans. Regardless, we've been given the famous Gwen Stacy death and a set-up for a Sinister Six standalone film. Garfield may not be everyone's ideal Spidey and the first two movies may not have had the story we had all been clamoring for, but I bet we will be pleasantly surprised with shots of Spider-Man taking on his six most famous foes.
FOX
Fox's X-Men movies started this new trend of comic book movie adaptations. While not the first of its kind, it is more-or-less the first well-received of its generation. It spawned the critically acclaimed X2: X-Men United which both lit a fire in our hearts for the amazing Nightcrawler and blew it out in one fell swoop. It all seemed to go downhill from there. X-Men: The Last Stand was not exactly a fan-favorite and X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn't do much to fix any problems. Then First Class came along. It's no Godfather, but it really captures the foundation of the X-Men. Next was The Wolverine, another film with a mixed reception, that was just enough to bring us back into the world of Wolverine with flair. Most recently, we were treated to X-Men: Days Of Future Past. This film is considered to be one of the best of the genre (mostly because it erases the duds that came before it). It has an excellent plot and spectacular performances by the returning Fassbender, McAvoy, Hoult, Lawrence, Jackman, Stewart, and McKellen. Its set-up for the impending Apocalypse film has us all thirsty for more.
In addition to the X-Men, Fox has decided to reboot their failed Fantastic Four franchise. While little information is given (information that has yet to accept a positive response from fans), a strong, young cast and a new take on the characters' story should be just what Fox needs to have another successful franchise under their belts.
ANYWAYS,
the next time you decide to jump on a Marvel article to say that the MCU sucks and DC is better or Fox-Men is destroying your faith in movies or The Amazing Spider-Man series is a joke, think about this: there is nothing you can do to fix the "problems" you have with these movies. These properties are with their respective studios and will continue to be so. So, instead of complaining and nagging constantly at the slightest bit of news or clicking on articles YOU KNOW you are just reading to troll, why don't you just get over yourself and realize that we are in the Golden Age. We have several comic book movies being released annually. Love the cinematic generation you're apart of because it might not be around in 20 years.
Unless you're hand-counting each dollar these studios rakes in, no one can really be declared a winner... except for the fans they make these movies for.
