Mike Colter On How LUKE CAGE Would Handle The PUNISHER

Mike Colter On How LUKE CAGE Would Handle The PUNISHER

In season 2, Daredevil and Hell's Kitchen didn't take too kindly to the Punisher's brand of justice. But what if Jon Bernthal's lethal vigilante had brought his sniper rifle a few blocks further north?

Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock/Daredevil was adamant that criminals of all stripes needed to face judgement at the hands of NYC's legal system.  The Punisher felt different.  But what if the Punisher has turned up in Harlem, instead of Hell's Kitchen?

One well-placed sniper bullet and Cottonmouth (Mahershala Ali) and Diamondback (Erik LaRay Harvey) are no longer around to cause Luke Cage trouble.  Here's how Harlem's Hero would respond to Frank Castle's brand of justice, according to Mike Colter.  "No, I’m not gonna stop him. I don’t get blood on my hands but I won’t stop him from taking out dirtbags. I’d let it be. I don’t know if I have that thing in me that says I have to stop everyone from wiping out crime wherever it is… I wouldn’t care enough to stop someone else from doing it."

That's a very different philosophy that will surely lead to friction when Daredevil, Luke and possibly (probably) Frank Castle meet up in The Defenders.  With the already deceased ninjas of The Hand presumably serving as the antagonist, it's a philosophical difference that may not be explored in the Netflix miniseries.  But moving forward, with Daredevil season 3 and Luke Cage season 2, perhaps it will be a topic that's further explored?

Sounds reasonable and true to character enough. Agreed, it'll make for some good tension.

Idk. I could see Luke looking to stop Frank from doing anything in Harlem. I think Luke knows that there are some kids who get mixed up with the wrong crowds like Chico and Luke wouldn't want Frank killing indiscriminately. There'd be a chance Frank would take out people who could still be steered away from crime and have a future like Pops, so when it comes to the community of Harlem, I don't think Luke would want Frank's justice interfering with his own.
