Two New Television Series Set In The ALIEN Universe Are Reportedly In Development

It seems that following 2017's Alien: Covenant under-performing at the box office, the franchise has switched gears, with news of a pair of TV series in development, one produced by Ridley Scott...

HN Entertainment previously reported that an Alien TV series was in development, and today they've elaborated with a bit more information.

it seems that there are not one, but two series in the early stages, one of which will be produced for Hulu by Ridley Scott. Hulu, of course, had a huge genre hit with their J.J. Abrams/Stephen King-produced Castle Rock last Summer, while Scott is currently directing his first television project, the sci-fi series Raised by Wolves for TNT.

Says HN Entertainment:

Details are scarce at the moment but there might be multiple seasons that could tackle different corners/eras of the franchise, not unlike Noah Hawley’s series Fargo. In theory, I could see them possibly filling gaps in the franchise or crafting brand new stories to tell within the Alien universe. It still seems to be the very early days with these projects and I can’t exactly speak to what they’ll be about at the moment.

20th Century Fox teased big plans for the Alien franchise for 2019, using the slogan "Read. Play. Watch." Might the "Watch" portion of their advertising hint at an imminent new story on the small screen? Time will tell!

What say you? Are you excited, annoyed, or indifferent that the Alien franchise may continue on the small screen?

Budget wise, I wonder how involved the actual Aliens will be?

We don’t get Hulu down this way so if it all goes ahead I’ll be interested to see who picks it up.

If you ask me James Cameron’s Aliens was the last good thing to come out of the Alien franchise.

I just need to know how COVENANT leads to ALIEN. The best I could come up with is that some surviving Engineers track down David, and he kills them and steals their ship. David, with his cargo of weaponized eggs, somehow uploads himself to The Company’s computers on Earth, influencing androids like Ash and the computer MU-TH-ER to seek out LV-426

@NoAssemblyReqd - well the androids like Ash were programmed by Weyland-Yutani to disregard human life in order to secure Alien specimens to weaponize them and profit off of. So perhaps David, before he goes offline, sends some information about the aliens back to Earth and this prompts the mission with Ripley to LV-426.
And Scott had said that the place David destroyed in Covenant was just an Engineer colony and not the Engineer homeworld, and that the Engineers will be pissed and coming for him.

This news is interesting. Honestly, this might be the best way for Scott to finish his prequel storyline. I was not a fan of Alien: Covenant, but I want him to finish the Prometheus storyline. Stop focusing so much on AI gone bad; that really has never been the focus of the franchise until these prequels. Bring it back home; explore the Engineers storyline that he first introduced, only to then literally butcher it in Covenant. With the proper oversight, Scott can hopefully turn around his prequel storyline and properly finish what he started. Especially if he isn't the one directing.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Studio interference is what led to Covenant.

Regarding the other series, it needs to be taken back to the roots of the franchise. Maybe bring Neil Blomkamp on. Or have it follow a group of Colonial Marines (which many of the Alien games do). Something that returns the franchise to its roots.

Would be funny if they just did a sit-com and a period drama and just said, yep, same universe.

At this point I want to know what happens to David and thus want to see the end of the Alien prequel trilogy.

I could see an Alien tv show based on how the Hadleys Hope colony on LV-426 got overrun with the xenomorphs and ending with contact being lost with the Weyland-Yutani company and paul reiser reprising his role as Carter Burke to investigate with the marines.
