As Dune director Denis Villeneuve continues to round out his cast, the latest big name to join this new adaptation of Frank Herbert's celebrated sci-fi novel is Academy Award winner Javier Bardem (Skyfall, No Country for Old Men, Mother!)

THR reports that Bardem will play Stilgar, who is the noble leader of a nomadic tribe native to Arrakis known as The Fremen. Chani (Zendaya) is another member of the group and Stilgar's right-hand woman. When Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) comes to their planet, The Fremen come to see him as their savior.

The movie will also star Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen, Dave Bautista as "The Beast" Rabban and Charlotte Rampling as the Reverend Mother.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, Dune follows the Atreides family as they relocate to the desolate planet of Arrakis to assume control of the production of the most valuable resource in the galaxy, the Spice Melange. Unfortunately, an act of treachery soon makes an outcast of The Duke Atreides' youngest son Paul, and he must accept his destiny as a powerful prophet of the Arrakis natives known as The Fremen.

There have been several different adaptions of Dune over the years, the most famous - or infamous, depending on your perspective - is David Lynch's ambitious, but flawed 1984 movie starring Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Kyle MacLachlan. This latest take will be produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers.

@Forthas - Just out of curiosity why does Oscar Isaac get a C- ?

@CurlyBill - In the book...Leto is significantly older than Jessica, his concubine. Oscar looks like he is the same age as Rebecca Ferguson. Second he is 2 inches shorter than his would be on screen son Timothée Chalamet. which looks awkward to me. Finally, I think it is a bad idea to bring attention to the Star Wars universe of which Isaac is a prominent member since Dune will already be compared to it.

@Forthas - Hmmm never read the book, but I'm also a stickler for accuracy when it come to adaptions.

OT: There's a Captain Marvel clip that was released at the Ellen show. It's an extended look at the train scene.

Man I really got to read the book now. Bardem is great, always thought had make a good Otto Octavius in the MCU.
