"May thy knife chip and shatter."

Dune director Denis Villeneuve promised that his upcoming sequel would be a lot more action-focused than its predecessor, and if this first trailer for Part Two is any indication, he wasn't exaggerating.

The teaser begins with Paul Atreides and Chani sharing a sweet moment in the desert, but things soon take a more sinister turn as we're introduced to Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), who hints at a foreboding prophecy.

From there, we get quick glimpses of some new and returning characters, including Baron Harkonnen's other nephew, the formidable - and sadistically ruthless - Feyd-Rautha (Austin Butler), who will serve as the movie's main antagonist.

Then, we get an extended look at what will surely be one of the movie's biggest set pieces, as Paul scales one of Arrakis' gigantic sandworms while Chani, Stillgar and the Fremen look on in awe.

Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think in the comments.

The saga continues as award-winning filmmaker Denis Villeneuve embarks on Dune: Part Two, the next chapter of Frank Herbert’s celebrated novel Dune, with an expanded all-star international ensemble cast. The film, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s six-time Academy Award-winning Dune.

Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

The movie also stars Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem.

Dune: Part Two is set to hit theaters on November 3rd, 2023.

About Dune:

The epic work of science fiction that is known as "Dune" was written in 1965 by the American novelist Frank Herbert. It was first distributed to readers in the form of two distinct serials in the magazine Analog. The book is the first volume of the Dune saga, and it has earned tremendous recognition. In fact, it tied for the Hugo Award in 1966 with Roger Zelazny's "This Immortal" and won the first Nebula Award for Best Novel.

While working as a reporter in Florence, Oregon in the late 1950s covering the extent of damage caused by the encroaching desert, Frank Herbert was inspired to write "Dune" by the battle he witnessed between man and nature. The novel also integrates his interest in religion, the psychology of leadership, and the affects that these things have on the mind, which he developed while working on his debut novel, "Under Pressure", which was eventually released as "The Dragon in the Sea".

The majority of the action in "Dune" takes place on the desert planet Arrakis, which is often referred to as the "spice world". The story is set in an expansive and intricate solar system. The book was an important part in the evolution of space fantasy literature and has been a significant influence on a variety of works, including "Star Wars".

Following the publication of "Dune," "Dune Messiah," "Children of Dune," "God Emperor of Dune," "Heretics of Dune," and "Chapterhouse: Dune," author Frank Herbert went on to write a total of six novels that were all set in the Dune universe. All of these novels, along with a number of his other works of science fiction, were successful enough to be published in multiple countries.

Oppenheimer, DUNE: PART 2, Dead Reckoning.

Easily my three most anticipated films this year. Probably followed closely by Fincher’s The Killer.

@abd00bie - You want that toothpick to play Terry? He's a great actor, but no. I just can't buy him as Terry, who is a badass. I'd rather Austin Butler to be honest, and maybe make him a university student instead of high school.

@abd00bie - nah. Chalamet doesn't have that "dangerous" look that Terry McGinnis need.

That final fight scene stands in such contrast to the first POS Dune. That sums up the whole conflict. Good vs Evil. I love the stark setting rather than the grotesquely ornate first version. Even though Sting put on a good performance that wasn't Feyd.

@Goldboink - pretty sure Dune isn't about good vs evil, far more morally complex than that
Goldboink
Goldboink - 5/4/2023, 7:23 PM
@Cap1 -
It becomes more morally ambiguous however at that point in the saga the Jihad had not begun and Alia hadn't been possessed by the soul of the Dead Baron. The Harkonens are clearly evil and at that point Paul is the ascending hero.

@Goldboink - Paul is on a quest for revenge. He uses these people and their fanatical belief in their religion to get it. He knowingly unleashed the jihad across the universe in order to get revenge. And he saw ways to end it. He wanted revnge. Hardly a hero. And Feyd is supposed to be better looking than Paul. "Such a lovely boy." he was supposed to the savior of Arrakis from the Beast Rabban. He definitely wasn't as bad as either of them. And Hawat was training him. Lady Fenrig saved his bloodline. He had potential. Paul wasn't purely good and Feyd wasn't purely evil. They were both survivors, until one wasn't.

Dune needs LOTR treatment. Or GoT treatment. This is worse than the Syfi channel adaptation. FR! No mention of the Weirding Way, The breeding plan, CHOAM, Spacing Guild, Landsraad and their importance. Paul IS a Mentat for goddness sakes.

@90caliber -
Yea, I'm going to have to disagree with you on a number of issues.
- House Atriedes were clearly the "good guys"
- Paul is out for revenge, sure, but he's also out to defeat the Emporer and the Harkonens who are clearly evil in everything they do and how they go about it
- The Baron set up a cynical play where he would beat the crap out of Arakis with Raban and then bring in Feyd who appeared to be a savior but would still oppress them.
- In the books Feyd is just as bad as any of them and was the other candidate to be the Kwisatz Haderach and was trained to be a ruthless tyrant from birth
- By the time that fight occurs Paul has already drunk the Water of Life and gained the ability to see the past present and future in the same instant.
- Lady Fenring is in the second movie.
- The Weirding Way is mentioned by Stilgar at the end of the movie
The Guild is introduced in the beginning and the Great Houses are mentioned as well.

So, yea, I liked the TV show and own it but it's in no way better than these movies.

@Goldboink - Labeling House Atredies as the good guys is clearly subjective so we will continue to disagree on that. Not being as bad as your enemy doesn't make you good. I see thats a big thing with you but i think those labels cloud your ability to see.

-The Baron is making a play. But Feyd and Hawat have different ideas. They both want to kill the Baron and are actually planning that. it didn't happen, but that was the plan.

-Feyd was never ever a candidate for Kwisatz Hederach. His offspring with and Atredies daughter would have been. As well as with Lady Fenring. They never did explore that pregnancy but she did get pregnant by Feyd.

- Missed the weirding mentioning. It deserves more than just a mention though. The guild as well.
