He who controls the spice, controls the box office

Dune: Part Two has continued to perform very well during its second week in theatres, and after taking in $157 million domestically and another $210 million from over 70 overseas markets, is now approaching $380 million worldwide.

With a reported production budget of $190 million (not counting advertising costs, etc) Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi sequel will need to gross around $500 million globally in order to break-even. As things stand, the movie is expected to clear at least $700 million by the time it finishes its theatrical run.

While a spot in the $1 billion club is unlikely, this would be a pretty impressive result in the current post-pandemic climate, and all-but guarantee Villeneuve the opportunity to complete his trilogy with the planned adaptation of Dune: Messiah.

Have you been to see Dune: Part Two yet? If so, what did you think? Drop us a comment down below.

"Those hoping for blockbuster escapism might find themselves shook by this faithful, at times borderline depressing adaptation," we said in our review. "But Dune Part Two is Sci-fi spectacle at its finest and most audacious, as Villeneuve builds-upon and possibly surpasses (opinions will vary) his previous film with aplomb."

The saga continues as award-winning filmmaker Denis Villeneuve embarks on Dune: Part Two, the next chapter of Frank Herbert’s celebrated novel Dune, with an expanded all-star international ensemble cast. The film, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s six-time Academy Award-winning Dune.

The big-screen epic continues the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s acclaimed bestseller Dune with returning and new stars, including Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (Wonka, Call Me by Your Name), Zendaya (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Malcolm & Marie, Euphoria), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame, Milk), Oscar nominee Austin Butler (Elvis, Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood), Oscar nominee Florence Pugh (Black Widow, Little Women), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Love and Thunder), Oscar winner Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter,), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), Léa Seydoux (James Bond, Crimes of the Future), with Stellan Skarsgård (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (45 Years, Assassin’s Creed), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Being the Ricardos).

Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Just saw it last night and couldn’t recall another time in the theater when a movie’s sound designs were so interestingly executed.

Sweet , congrats to Villeneuve as well as the rest of the cast & crew!!.

Sadly , idk if I’ll be able to watch it in theaters anytime soon atleast since the past 2 weeks have been dealing with some personal stuff and the rest of the month doesn’t seem like it’ll be any more likely which sucks but oh well.

Anyway , can’t wait to watch when I can since I liked the first one (need to rewatch that before this too)!!.

Some might find this blasphemous, but I think I prefer the movies to the book, which I did also love, but found it somewhat emotionless.

@MarkCassidy - The biggest difference was the change in medium, and honestly this might be a hot take but the visual language of the movie is incredible while the actual prose of the novel - which i loved - was kind of weak. In that regard I might have to agree with you

Saw this last night. Film was amazing, the sound..the visuals. I was worried about Feyd's portrayal, but it was really cool. I haven't been this impressed with a movie in a long time. The theater was silent, people just sat there, for 5 mins after the credits started rolling
