DUNE: PART TWO Is A Warning On Religious Fanaticism According To Timothée Chalamet

According to actor Timothée Chalamet, who plays the youthful lord of House Atreides in Dune: Part two, Paul Atreides is no longer the innocent, "boyish figure" depicted in the first movie.

As suggested in the closing scenes of the first Dune movie, Paul Atreides is now prepared to fight the usurpers who killed his father.

However, the sequel will attempt to showcase just how far would the youthful Atreides go in order to have his revenge?

In an interview with SFX Magazine, Timothée Chalamet teased, "All of us should be so lucky, not like Paul who lives a hard life, but in our own lives to evolve and live many chapters but as the same person. So this is very much Paul Atreides, but not the boyish figure we saw at the beginning of the first one. This is a young man stepping into his role amongst the Fremen people and then beyond that – stepping into a leadership role that he’s not necessarily keen on but called to and steps into."

Chamalet also added that in the sequel, "This is a warning against religious fanaticism, and worship of leaders or charisma, like we see all too commonly in the world today. Because it’s tempting, and it’s an easy way out. This is very much a cautionary tale."

Where do you think Dune: Part Two's opening weekend box office gross will fall when the final numbers come in?

Currently, the film's advance ticket sales are on par with Oppenheimer, leading box office analyst to predict a $65M domestic opening weekend.

The film features an exceptional cast with Timothée Chalamet starring as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck and Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

Also appearing in supporting roles are Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban Harkonnen, Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot Fenring, Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Charlotte Rampling as Gaius Helen Mohiam and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

Dune: Part Two is currently set to be released on March 01, 2024. The film was originally set for release on November 3, 2023 but was pushed back due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA Hollywood strike.

Dune: Part Two Official Synopsis
Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Denis Villeneuve directed from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts based on Herbert’s novel.

Well it’s a theme from the books so it isn’t surprising that it’s in the movie.

That being said, the warning is against messiah figures, both political and religious. In modern society, it would be best for people to caution themselves against political leaders, as they have exponentially more power and control than religions do. The state is the modern religion for far too many people.

Careful. People here don’t take kindly to critical thinking.

“ORANGE MAN BADDDDDD”

They can’t see that bad people can be on either “side” or even both “sides” at the same time. The truth is that so many of us are pawns in the games that the elit billionaires of the world are playing. I mean, for crying out loud, Zuckerberg literally has been building a Dr Evil surviva bunker in a mountain in Hawaii and Epstein had an island of children for rich pedophiles (which trump never went to but Bill Clinton did about a dozen times), but I digress. The point is that the reality we live in is no longer fiction or for conspiracy theorists.

@AmazingFILMporg - Your right that Trump as a figure was like that and Biden isn’t. But Fauci was. And there are certain left leaning political topics that are very religious in how their adherents follow them.

Not a Trump defender. I have never and will never vote for him. But the cult like behavior of some of his followers, was equally shown by the COVID doomers, climate doomers, the gender cult, the race essentialists. It all acts like religion for secular people.

Itwasme - 2/21/2024, 12:07 PM
@mountainman - it happens on the negative side too - meaning we build up villains. I read news across the media spectrum and I found it interesting that when AOC first hit the scene she was talked about way more on the Right than on the left. I actually think it built up her platform so now she's a much bigger voice. Same happened on the Left with Gaetz but not quite as much.

Having villains is equally as important.

@FireandBlood -

I will regret asking what “called out” means but regardless of Trump’s personality being insufferable to me and some other people, he was proven innocent and the entire Russia collusion narrative proves how biased the media was to push a lie that had no substance, and proven to have been a fake dossier paid for by Hillary. It’s not fiction. That’s fact that even MSM had to finally admit years later.

Obama and Biden and the Bush’s on the other hands are war criminals who every term got the US into wars. Trump was the first president in my life time to actually avoid war with peace treaties. The man single-handedly convinced a lunatic like Kim Jung Un to actually meet with the president of South Korea for the first time in like 50 YEARS!

Whatever trumps faults are, he never gets the credit he should for the good he did.

Tell me, what good Biden has done?
All I see, is the invasion of the border, crime rising, inflation rising, 3 new world wars started as soon as he entered office.

Not a great look, I’d say.

@Itwasme - An unfortunate side of maintaining power is to demonize the other side. It’s toxic and many of us say we don’t like it, but it does work to rally people to a cause. The best you can do is to ignore it so it doesn’t affect you. The sad part of humanity is that it does influence a lot of people.

FireandBlood - 2/21/2024, 12:40 PM

1. I’m not right wing
2. Each person owns their vote, even if their choice is to buck the system and not vote
3. You assume the left cares about people more, when history proves all major parties are anti-people

But go ahead and think you’re resisting by voting for lifelong politicians who enrich themselves from you.

@Itwasme - I’m also a fan of:

- Being the only president this century to not start a new foreign conflict
- The Iran nuclear deal
- The North Korea deal
- Trying to get the US out of Syria

You probably see my top issue with national policies and why I don’t support a vast majority of these warmongers (including Trump despite these few good things).

@darthgeekboy - he did. Honestly it came from Kim Kardashian- which is freaking shocking. But overall it was pretty good.

Personally I think we need to rethink our beliefs on crime prevention entirely.
