McFarlane Toys Launches DUNE Collectible Figure Line Just In Time For The Holiday Season

Despite the fact that Dune has been pushed back to next year, McFarlane Toys has went ahead and released a line of collectible figures based on the highly anticipated sci-fi epic from Denis Villeneuve

Dune isn't coming until 2021, but McFarlane Toys is looking to capitalize on the current holiday season by launching a new collectible line of figures based on the upcoming blockbuster. Available nationwide at most retailers, including TargetGameStop, Amazon, and Walmart, 7-inch Build-A and 12-inch scale figures lines feature figures inspired by the likenesses of the film's cast.

Dune fans will find 7-inch Build-A figures for Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa), Stilgar (Javier Bardem) and Beast Rabban (Dave Bautista). Each figure is designed with Ultra Articulation with moving parts for full range of posing and play. They also each come with various character-specific accessories as well as a base if you want to put them on display. Each figure retails for $24.99.

There's also a Dune Collectible 12-inch Baron Vladimir Harkonnen figure inspired by the likeness of Stellan Skarsgård. Again, this figure is designed to capture "the essence and likeness of the all-consuming figurehead of House Harkonnen." This figure is available for $39.99.

Dune is an adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. It's directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049).

Dune was easily one of this year's most anticipated movies, but the sci-fi blockbuster had been pushed back to 2021 due to the global pandemic. It was delayed from December of this year all the way to October 2021. However, there could be another issue with its release as Legendary Entertainment could possibly take WB to court over the company's decision to release the jointly-produced film in theaters and HBO Max simultaneously.

10 months before release? Haha.
The Paul & Jessica figures look a lot like their actors, Stilgar & Ducan... less so.

Saw these at Target yesterday. Surprised that they were released almost a year too early. Were they operating under the original release date, and therefore original contracts? Without the movie's hype on overdrive, I'm not sure how well these would sell.

@Vanillain - Maybe the Call Me By Your Name crowd will buy a Paul to pair with their Lone Ranger action figure

They tried this way back in 1985 and those action figures didn't sell either. I just don't think Dune is a popular enough property with mainstream audiences to spin off into merchandising.

I know the original book is one of the biggest selling sci-fi novels ever and it's sequels and spinoffs are popular too, but the property just doesn't seem to lend itself to the usual merchandising. Are kids nowadays really gonna be excited playing with toys of dudes, sandworms, and a couple of ships? 🤔

Not bad. They're no NECA, but they're alright.

How McFarlane could make a horrible Jason Momoa head? Even Mattel did a great job with Momoa in those basic 6 usd figures.

I still think the costumes are so uninspired? They look generic? The honestly remind me of those ugly ass suits from that Will Smith and his kid movie...

I wanna love the look, since I can’t wait for the movie!
