GODZILLA VS. KONG Moves Its Monster Showdown Up Two Months To Late March

While every other major studio is pushing their films further into the year, Warner Bros. and Legendary have made the bold decision to move up the release of Godzilla vs. Kong by two whole months!

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment have officially moved up their MonsterVerse epic Godzilla vs. Kong two whole months from Memorial Day to March 26, 2021.

The film will debut simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max, making it the fifth title to debut day and date as part of WarnerMedia's unprecedented decision to send its entire 2021 slate to their newly-launched, albeit struggling, streaming service. It's expected to have an exclusive 30-day window once it hits streaming.

With the release date shift, it looks like we'll be getting an official trailer and poster as well as plenty of never-before-seen images sometime very soon, possibly even before or at the Super Bowl next month.

Godzilla vs. Kong will be the fourth installment in the MonsterVerse, following Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Adam Wingard (Death Note) is directing with a screenplay from Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl). The ensemble cast features Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Jessica Henwick, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, Demián Bichir, Zhang Ziyi, Van Marten and Lance Reddick.

In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.

Godzilla vs. Kong roars into theaters and on HBO Max on March 26

@Se4M4NSt4ine - I would hope it's carefully placed soon.

@MosquitoFarmer - if WB are smart, they can capitalise off the marketing of this for their Snyder Cut release.

Doubt it though...

@regularmovieguy - hopefully its better than King Of The Monsters, was as big of a disapointment as Justice League

@dracula

I never finished KOTM. Couldn’t do it. Thought it was boring.

@dracula - Yeah agreed. Some really cool and touching moments with Godzilla. But damn did the human characters get in the way too much. (Specifically the fight scenes)

I'm not saying don't include them, I'm just saying maybe they could get eaten once in a while?

dracula - 1/15/2021, 7:15 PM
@JohnMarston220 - yeah, with the first movie, the human lead wasn't the most interesting character but what was going on and the progression of the story worked well enough. In KOTM, yeah characters were boring and the story was boring. Really I even got bored with the monster fights. First movie made it worth the wait, KOTM, really there was nothing spectacular about the fights

@regularmovieguy - yeah, even the monster fights were boring

@dracula - True. The first had a great last battle. I still get chills watching Godzilla power up for his atomic breath.

The only hype moments for me were whenever Godzilla came in to the rescue. I saw it in Imax 3D, it was glorious...

@dracula - first film lead sucked. Kyle chandler and the rest of the main cast of king of the monsters was pretty great(other that stranger things chick)

@ComicEd3

Loved the 2014 movie. Despite ATJ’s character being super boring.

@ComicEd3 - the quality of the fights is more important than the amount of fights. Godzilla 2014 had better fights and the human story of the first one was more engaging than the human story of King Of The Monsters

@ComicEd3 -

2014 was closer in spirit to the original film

KOFTM was nothing more than an effects fest. More like some of the worst of the Godzilla franchise. (More like Godzilla Final War, which is fun but, it was even a failure in japan)

@SatsuiNoJXA - it's the fact the movies have been in Flux with releasing. Trailers being released costs money and they aren't gonna put money down when they don't have an idea when it's releasing. In this case since the movie just moved down its bound to release soon.

EZBeast

@dracula - That crossover should’ve happened over 20 years ago...I’m still hopeful that maybe one day it’ll happen!
dracula
dracula - 1/15/2021, 7:12 PM
@Devilman - Like seriously they are the two biggest monsters in japan, only way you could go bigger is if you throw in Ultraman.It would be a win win situation, how has Toho and whoever owns Gamera not even considered it yet
Godzilla2000Zer
Godzilla2000Zer - 1/15/2021, 7:23 PM
@dracula - With the distinct exception of Kong Toho doesn't like to do crossover with other companies Kadokawa who currently owns Gamera did approach Toho back in 2003 to do Godzilla vs Gamera and Toho rejected which is a shame but Japanese companies are notoriously protective of the IPs
