GODZILLA VS. KONG Reportedly Viewed More On HBO Max Than WONDER WOMAN 1984 & ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE

We know that Godzilla vs. Kong has been a hit at the box office, but what about on HBO Max? Well, it sounds like the movie drew a bigger audience than Wonder Woman 1984 and Zack Snyder's Justice League.

Deadline has shared some data from streaming ratings firm Samba TV which reveals that an estimated 3.6 million households tuned in to at least five minutes of Godzilla vs. Kong during its first five days on HBO Max. They only poll viewers who have the app on their smart TVs, so it's possible that the actual numbers are much higher when you take smartphones and tablets into account.

Regardless, these numbers easily surpass the figures Samba TV reported for both Wonder Woman 1984 (2.2 million households) and Zack Snyder's Justice League (1.8 million households).

On Sunday, WarnerMedia Direct-to-Consumer EVP and General Manager Andy Forssell said that Godzilla vs. Kong "had a larger viewing audience than any other film or show on HBO Max since launch."

That backs this data up, but was it a smart business decision on the company's part?

Many analysts feel that Warner Bros. would have benefited most from having the movie play solely in theaters, especially as those box office numbers far exceeded expectations. Had the option to watch Godzilla vs. Kong at home (for free, essentially) not been there, then that opening weekend could have been even higher; as it stands, there's no denying that it still did pretty damn well

In the UK, where Godzilla vs. Kong was only available on PVOD platforms, 225,000 households reportedly paid to tune into the crossover event when it was released digitally on April 1st.

Stuff with much lower budgets continue to outdo snyder

oh yeah you can expect them to announce Zack Snyder as the owner of DC comics any day now.

Not.

It's pretty simple and straightforward action, and all that under 2 hours. Ofcourse this draws in large numbers.

@bkmeijer - directors cut of films have never been known to "make more money" or do better than the original films. 99% of the time it just creates a cult or niche following and ZSJL was no different. a lot of the consensus on Snyder cut is that its still the same as whedons but just longer, slower, and r rated. why would general moviegoers care about a film they already saw, hated, and is now 2 hrs longer? if its not a brand new film, they won't care.

KvG is a new film so its going to draw more viewers even if they only see the 1st 5 mins.

@mastakilla39 - ZSJL being a longer version of what we've already seen does indeed not help in the numbers.

WW84 is a different story though. It had familiar characters and was a new story, but a long one at that. Difference probably is, that had a very limited cinema release

Considering how many rumour articles are posted here, shocked me a little to see the words "reportedly" in the headline.
It was a good movie, or least as good and thematic about a nuclear lizard and big gorilla can be. Not entirely sure where they go from here

@LittleSween - It was pure simple monster mash and people had fun watching it that's what counts at the end of the day and a rewatch. Some people want to leave there brains at the door and leave there shitty reality behind Godzilla Vs Kong did exactly that.

As I've said before, if most social media noise directly correlated to actual real-life outcomes, Bernie Sanders would be on his second term of the U.S. Presidency right now.

Again, the Snyder Cut was NEVER about the movement. AT&T doesn't give a [frick] about the Snyder Cut or any movie for that matter. They only care about MONEY and how to get more of it. The Snyder Cut campaign became a means to an end to drive traffic to HBO Max, and that's it.
As much as we'd like to think, they're not stupid at WB. They've seen the numbers; the general audience has rejected Snyder's take on DC's heroes. That's why they've been in the process of moving on from it. It's not hate towards Snyder, but the simple fact that his fandom, no matter how loud they are, is not large enough to generate PROFIT on the expected investment they'd have to make on Snyder's DC movies.
One million tweets does not equal one million people.

My favorite thing about this is on Twitter, a tweet talking about this had replies from Snyder Cultists demanding to know the Snyder Cuts numbers, and when someone pointed out Snyder Cut got 1.8 million views compared to Godzilla vs Kongs 3.6 million, the cultists response was to whine and bitch and say those can’t be the official numbers, that it’s a conspiracy, and WB must be hiding or lying about the real numbers.

@Nerdman3000 - It really is ridiculous at this point...The whole thing...

And several of the “writers” on this site should be ashamed of themselves for using their chosen profession to openly push an agenda, that the overwhelming majority of the movie going public can see is toxic from top to bottom...

I liked Justice League far more than Godzilla vs. Kong.
But personally, when it comes to rewatching either one, I'm more willing to watch the dumb, short monster fighting movie that doesn't need me use any brain cells.

Wow this idiot really does like trying to stir shit up for posting dumbass articles like this. These movies are from the same studio but yet hes somehow trying to make it seem like if they're actually competing with one another. Just proves that he has nothing better to write about than stupid shit like this. Pathetic.

@n1ghtw1ng2832 - I mean the original intent from all the Snyder cultists was clearly to get people to boycott everything WB to try and stiff arm them into picking up the Snyder-verse again...All the social media posts about GvK a perfect indicator of this...

Wilding, being the Snyder shill he is, was all about posting the negative review “articles” for GvK until he got called to the floor in the comments sections for it...Meanwhile I don’t think he’s acknowledged a single bad review for ZSJL yet...And that goes for all of his other writing aliases on here as well...

The toxic approach worked for them last time with the Snydercut stuff, stands to reason they’d double down on the same tactics for the Snyder-verse...Thing is the the normal level headed movie watching individual saw right through it this time, and if anything put a little extra support behind GvK to spite the Snyder-cult...It’s ridiculous, but this is WB’s fault for caving and going ahead with the Snydercut in the first place...
