With the release of Godzilla vs. Kong fast approaching, Warner Bros. has finally lifted the embargo on set visit reports, and we now have confirmation that the movie will indeed include Mecha-Godzilla.
In Collider's piece, it's revealed that, "We walked on to the set, and there was a gigantic Ghidorah skull that had been wired up and made technological. It’s one of the cooler sets I’ve been on as it looks like they had taken the organic matter of Ghidorah and mechanized it into some new kind of mechanized creature."
Does that confirm plans for Mecha-King Ghidorah? Not necessarily.
ComicBook.com reveals that, "the Ghidorah skull will be tied to or directly connected to the Mechagodzilla of it all, as the massive neon-lit wires sprawled out from the skull like tendrils illuminating the control room inside of it and reflective black floor beneath it. Not far behind that control room were LED screens with blueprints for Mechagodzilla."
Putting the pieces together here, it seems the remains of King-Ghidorah following his defeat and death in Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be used to create a Mecha-Godzilla that's been built from what's left of that iconic monster's greatest enemy. That might not be what every fan wanted to see, but it's a clever way of justifying the robotic villain's modern debut on screen.
We'll hopefully have more to share with you soon, but after months of leaked toys, promo art, and spoilers, it's good to know that Mecha-Godzilla's role in this event movie is now...officially official!
