GODZILLA VS. KONG Will Likely Head To Streaming As Netflix & HBO Max Put In Offers

All's been quiet on the Godzilla Vs. Kong front for quite some time, but we now have a major update regarding the highly-anticipated monster mash, which will likely head straight to a streaming service.

It looks like Godzilla Vs. Kong will be the next major tentpole to forgo a theatrical release and head straight to streaming.

It's been a long time since we had an official update on Adam Wingard's King of the Monsters follow-up, which had naturally led to the assumption that the movie had been pushed back and would hit theatres later in 2021, or sometime in 2022. However, THR now reports that a streaming debut is more likely.

According to the trade, Netflix put in an offer of more than $200 million for the film, which WarnerMedia blocked as they prepare a counteroffer for the rights to send it to HBO Max. Legendary declined to comment, but a Warner Bros. spokesperson said: "We plan to release Godzilla vs. Kong theatrically next year as scheduled."

Could the movie ultimately end up following Wonder Woman 1984's lead and release in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time? WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar and WB chairman Ann Sarnoff are said to be working on an offer that will allow for a streaming release that "also includes a theatrical component," so it sounds like a definite possibility.

Starring Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, Shun Oguri, Jessica Henwick and Brian Tyree Henry, Godzilla Vs. Kong pits the two famous monsters against each other in an epic battle. Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok) and Max Borenstein (The Terror) wrote the screenplay.

King of the monsters was boring, even the monster fights seemed to get old.

This is directed by the director of the american Death Note

@dracula - Both "The Guest" and "You're Next" were very good imo.
Also I thought DT was an okay movie- then again, I'm not the biggest Death Note fan.

@JohnMarston220 - Havent seen either of those.

Not a big death note fan either, but a few years ago, my brother basically made me watch it, and yeah it was a lot better than that movie.

AT&T might as well just fold WB at this point considering how they don't seem to have any interest in the theatrical model

@tmp3 - I am expecting them to also do this with Dune. Yet Tom and Jerry is still getting the full theatrical release.

I thought Godzilla 2014 was pretty good, in spite of its overteasing and cutting away. Everything else in the "Monsterverse" has been blah imo.

@dracula - Yeah but have you tried to finish a Uwe Boll film? I find it impossible and have suggested the CIA to use it as new form of torture that will surpass water boarding.

Yeah no, pandemic or no pandemic. This is a day one at the biggest screen at my theater. Also this movie will cost around 300 milion with marketing so it will fail, and so will WW84.
