Like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War before it, Godzilla vs. Kong features a big screen battle between two legends that MonsterVerse fans have been waiting a very long time to see.

By now, many of you will have watched the movie on HBO Max (or even on an IMAX screen) while we're sure some of you are waiting for it to be released in theaters in your country. Either way, we're now breaking down the ending to explain how things pan out for the two title beasts.

In their initial fight at sea, Godzilla emerges victorious in his first battle with Kong, mostly because the water gives him a serious advantage. Later, in Hong Kong, the long-awaited rematch takes place, and it's Kong who stands victorious...briefly. Godzilla soon manages to recover, and after a lengthy, brutal battle, the "King of the Monsters" reigns supreme by slashing at Kong's chest and eventually pinning him to the ground until the giant ape is unable to continue fighting.

Of course, it's at this point Mecha-Godzilla arrives on the scene, and when Kong (who has learned sign language from a little girl) is told that Godzilla isn't his enemy, they team up to beat the giant robot. While Godzilla was overpowered by his mecha counterpart, Kong tears him to pieces, and the former enemies go their separate ways with Godzilla swimming away and Kong finding a new home in the Hollow Earth.

There's no post-credits scene, and it's hard to imagine where things could go next. Ultimately, though, the victor in Godzilla vs. Kong is Godzilla, but the King of Skull Island doesn't come out looking too bad.

Damn - that looked amazing. Weird AF and nonsensical but amazing...

Once again the movie alludes to Kongs race and Godzillas? (Always thought he was a one of a kind radiation mutant) and I wanna know more about them.

Remember when Jacksons Kong movie alluded to the race and never gave any answer, we're just to accept that Kong is somehow the only one left.

Oh and the fights in this movie were dope.

@TheDpool - what it has me thinking after the movie is over, is why did kongs race rise to the surface? What occurred in hollow earth long ago that made them vacate their original home....?

That plot point is ripe for telling in a sequel/prequel

I thought the opening 40 minutes were dumb and tedious as [frick] and the entire story was nigh-nonsensical, but the fights (which, let's face it, are why I was watching) are some all-timer shit. Couldn't have possibly been cooler and more exciting. I also found the hollow earth sequence to be very cool, even if, again, that plot point made no sense. The Godzilla fan in me chafed at how much damage Kong did, but I was satisfied that in the end, Godzilla definitively won (twice).

Kong bows to no one.

Went and seen Godzilla VS Kong last night at the theater. 4 Stars out of 5 Stars for me.

Smart King Kong and his interactions with people steels the show in Godzilla VS Kong. Action scenes and the fight at the end are great. Make no mistake about it Kong is King in this movie. Might disappoint Godzilla fans but the movie could have been called King Kong 2.

Finally, Wingard gets it right with the fights in these modern kaiju movies. Although Skull Island was pretty good in that regard as well. But we get to see them in full clarity, no rain or snow and barely cutting away to humans. The humans still continue to be the issue in these movies and now I totally appreciate what the original tried to do with it's characters compared to KoTM and GvK.

I also like how Kong basically has Thor's character arc from Ragnarok-Infinity War. I still prefer Skull Island the most of this series, but GvK is a close second.

@Vigor - It is, but I was sick to my stomach when I initially made the purchase, but I'm glad I bought it over my other choice.

King Kong saves Godzilla from terrible fate and then destroys Mechagodzilla. Kong goes Gonzo on the robot :)

@DoubleD - Yes, but after Kong got his shit utterly rocked by Godzilla twice.

@DoubleD - In the city fight Kong won round one but Godzilla gets up and wins round two. Kong put up a awesome fight.

Its Godzilla who got his butt kicked by Mechagodzilla it wasn't even a fight. About to die until Kong saves Godzilla and gives the final blow to Mecha Godzilla tears him to pieces.

@DoubleD - It's really clear who wins....multiple times. You can't pull enough mental gymnastics to believe Kong wins.

1. Kong loses at sea.
2. Kong yields and is about to die on land.
3. Kong yields and puts down the axe at the end.

Bonus: Kong needs humans help to even defeat monsters in the Hollow Earth.

@Morgol - Kong won round one but Godzilla gets up and wins round two. Kong put up a awesome fight.

Kong can talk to humans. King Kong didn't drop axe because he was scared but because he is intelligent and can speak to humans not like Godzilla who isn't as smart as Kong. Humans told Kong Godzilla was his friend not to fight.

Godzilla couldn't even put up a fight against Mecha-Godzilla he got his butt handed to him about to die. King Kong saved Godzilla from death yes they teamed up BUT Godzilla still got beat and out of the picture when King Kong beat and truly ripped Mecha-Godzilla in pieces alone without Godzilla who was no match for him.
