The first part of Zack Snyder's Star Wars-inspired sci-fi adventure, Rebel Moon, is now streaming on Netflix, and we're breaking down the movie's action-packed (and somewhat disjointed) conclusion, a major (though not totally unexpected) twist, and cliffhanger ending.
If you haven't watched A Child of Fire yet, major spoilers follow.
When Kora (Sofia Boutella) and fellow farmer Gunnar (Michiel Huisman) set off to find the legendary General Titus (Djimon Hounsou) to enlist his gladiators to their cause, their first stop is a cantina (think Mos Eiseley but with even more scum and villainy), where they meet a pilot/mercenary named Kai (Charlie Hunnam).
Our Han Solo surrogate offers his services, and suggests recruiting a few more warriors along the way. When Kora has her "Seven Samurai," Kai asks if she'd mind the crew making one more stop before returning to Velt so he can drop off his cargo and put his roguish ways behind him for good.
Unfortunately, Kai is not the space scoundrel with a heart of gold he initially presented himself as, but a full-on ruthless bastard who would sell anyone out if it meant a decent payday.
Kai tips off Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein) and his men, who are waiting to spring an ambush, and it's revealed that all of the individuals Kai enlisted were well-known to the Motherworld. Kai tries to force Gunnar to paralyse Kora, but he manages to kill the Irishman (or whatever doubles for an Irishman in this universe) instead, and the crew escape.
A firefight ensues, and Darrian Bloodaxe (Ray Fisher) nobly sacrifices himself to bring down a Dreadnought gun-ship and give his crewmates a chance. Kora engages in hand-to-hand combat with Noble, and is ultimately able to defeat the villain and send him plunging to his death... or so she believes.
As the surviving heroes arrive on Velt, we see that Noble's android(?) body has been recovered, and Motherworld scientists are somehow able to resurrect him.
So, Kora may think that her fight is over, but the sadistic Admiral will be back to take his revenge in Rebel Moon - Part 2: The Scargiver.

The heroes of Rebel Moon are: Kora (Sofia Boutella), an Imperium deserter who leaves the peaceful Veldt to fight back; Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a mercenary pilot whose Tawau-Class freighter will prove invaluable to Kora’s quest; Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), a Veldt farmer who knows little of the galaxy outside of his small, quiet corner of the galaxy; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a hardened gladiator who once served the Imperium; Tarak (Staz Nair), a noble indentured servant who shares a bond with a flying creature called a Bennu; Nemesis (Doona Bae), a cyborg sword master whose mechanical hands allow her to wield molten-metal weapons; Darrian Bloodaxe (Ray Fisher), an insurgent who has been harrying the Imperium with guerilla attacks; and Milius (E. Duffy), a refugee who seeks justice for their home — a colony that has already fallen to the Mother World.
Rebel Moon: A Child of Fire hits Netflix on December 21. The sequel, Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver, will debut on April 19, 2024.
