RUMOR: Daisy Ridley's STAR WARS: NEW JEDI ORDER Movie May Not Have A Completed Script...Or A Writer

After losing original writer Damon Lindelof, Steven Knight was enlisted to rewrite his Star Wars movie which we now know will be set during the "New Jedi Order" era. Today, we have a disappointing update!

Lucasfilm announced three new Star Wars movies at last April's Star Wars Celebration in London, but earlier this week, we learned that The Mandalorian & Grogu will be the next big screen release from the studio.

The other movies, including James Mangold's prequel set during the "Dawn of the Jedi," Dave Filoni's rumoured "Heir to the Empire" adaptation and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Rey project which takes place during the "New Jedi Order" period are still happening. However, the latter may be further down the line than expected.

Steven Knight, the writer who took over the movie from original scribe Damon Lindelof early last year supposedly still hasn't turned in a draft of the screenplay.

This rumour comes our way from Making Star Wars (via SFFGazette.com), there could be a reason that The Mandalorian & Grogu is now being lined up as the first Star Wars movie to arrive in theaters since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker.

"Today I was told that [Steven] Knight hasn’t written it [his draft], he hasn’t got to get to it. The scheduling and the stars did not align," the site explains. "Steven Knight was simply the guy they picked up and who they could get in that moment [following Damon Lindelof’s exit] and it never lined up. I’m not saying that he is off of it, I’m not saying that he’s going to write it or not going to write it -  I don’t know."

Lindelof and Justin Brit-Gibson were originally collaborating on the untitled movie, only for creative differences with Lucasfilm to lead to their departure. It didn't take long before Knight, who created Peaky Blinders, came on board only for work to be slowed down by the WGA strike.

The original plan was supposedly for him to turn in a draft by mid-May. There were rumblings at the time Knight might not hit that date and with the strikes lasting from May 2 until September 27, delays have inevitably followed.

This latest update doesn't sound promising but lines up with comments made by Rey actress Daisy Ridley last year which saw her confirm she's yet to read a script.

"I know the storyline for one film," she said at the time. "That's not to say that that's all it is, but that's what I was told about. And I imagine it will be the next film, I think. I mean, again, I don't know, post strikes and everything, how quickly everything will start up again. But yes, so far, I know the story of one film and I think people will be very excited."

The only confirmed details about this still-untitled Star Wars project are that it will be directed by Obaid-Chinoy and is set 15 years after the last events of the Skywalker Saga. We'll reunite with Rey and follow the story of rebuilding the New Jedi Order and the powers that rise to tear it down.

We wouldn't say the project is in trouble, but it's clearly not as close to being ready to shoot as we thought!

Star Wars startin' to look like the DCEU. Yikes.

@lazlodaytona - Starting?

I at least had some excitement for some of their projects.

@JustAWaffle - Star Wars or DCEU?

@lazlodaytona - Had some excitement for a few DCEU projects.

Star Wars has me completely apathetic until they hire a new oversight.

@lazlodaytona - Starting? It's been that way from the time Disney took over SW.If they were smart(they are not) they'd dump this movie and The Acolyte which are both going to tank and do nothing but hurt the brand more(which isn't much of a brand anymore)

@jst5 - I was trying to be 'negatively kind' when I posted that. Star Wars has been sh1t except for Mando season 1 & 2 (3rd season sucked), I actually liked Boba Fett which I know most didn't like, can't get past the first ep of ASHoka, and unlike a lotta others, I loved Obi-Wan....1st time Darth Vader actually felt scary.

SWs is a dying breed, and it started all the way back to "Return of the Jedi." NOTHING has improved the film/D+ series ever since then.

There are a lot of great novels and comicbook stories that do this IP justice. But on screen? Pathetic.

@lazlodaytona - Gotcha....Obi Wan was pure shit...minus a few Vader stuff...but it wasn't a suprise...Boba Fett ended up not even being the Boba Fett we know nor the show really about him.

SW was still massive during Esp 1-3...toy sales was huge and the interest was very much there.Disney killed it for a number of reasons.

We don't need Episode X.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Trial of the Mandalorian will do for now.

Thank you Jon Favrau/Dave Filoni. Kathy? Just let it happen. You will benefit lots and lots. Let it happen. World between worlds baby.

So this news is pointless, got it.

But it has a “diverse” director… and that’s all that matters.

Next up: the eventual cancellation of this movie. It's only the Disney way to announce movies they'll never make.

And... what's up with you wankers being scared of "diversity?" LOL. Are you a bunch of nerdy ass MAGAts? Get out of your moms' basements, and touch some snow. Ya muppets.

I'm starting to believe that Kathleen Kennedy's whole job nowadays is 90% damage control and 10% trying to be creative

“We totally learned our lesson from the Patty Jenkins debacle. We won’t announce premature projects that likely won’t see production.

Anywhoo— here’s a NEW Rey movie that totally has the latest trending female director, but no writer, no plot, no structure!”

I’m not against female directors; hell we need more of them! It’s the fact that that is the ONLY thing Kathleen is prioritizing.

Usually a creative team has a pitch. An idea for a story. That is then bought into by the studio. Kathleen keeps working backwards. She hasn’t hired the best person for the role or story, Because There Is No Story. How could you say [X] director, of whatever gender or ethnicity, is the best choice of the story when the story doesn’t exist?

There’s been so much bungling of the Star Wars brand since Disney’s purchase. So many burned creators, Lord & Miller ect. There’s one big common denominator here. I was never in this camp before, but I’m convinced now, Kennedy has got to go.

So, the whole last trilogy was utter garbage.

And they are going to continue it.

Idiots.

DarthOmega

They didn't have an outline for the original sequel trilogy. They hired all of the legacy actors back. Paid 4 Billion for Lucasfilm and had no idea how the trilogy stories would be told. That's embarrassing

FFS, they obviously hurried to announce that Mandalorian and Grogu movie to fill a revenue gap they see coming up because of this shit.

Remember the days when studios would say they are green lighting a film and said film would come out in a year or so? Without all this hype and rollercoaster ride of writers coming in and out? We live in trash fire times.
