Fans headed out to certain IMAX showings of the upcoming Star Wars anthology film Rogue One will get an early look at Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk in the form of a seven minute prologue. The news comes directly from the IMAX theater at the Minnesota Zoo and has been further corroborated by Slashfilm

Dunkirk, a war thriller starring Tom Hardy and Mark Rylance, was shot entirely on IMAX and 65mm film. Multiple reports suggest there will be more than 100 minutes of IMAX footage featured.

There are only a handful of IMAX venues presenting Rogue One in 70mm. It is unclear if other showings (perhaps those in 4K Laser) will feature the prologue.

It's no secret that Nolan is a crusader for large film formats, having first brought IMAX cameras to Hollywood features with 2008's The Dark Knight. He previously showcased IMAX's capabilities by presenting the opening sequences of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises to before screenings of I Am Legend and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, respectively.

Rogue One, from director Gareth Edwards, hits theaters this December 16.

Can not wait for this movie, my hype is through the roof. I've loved every single movie he's done, and believe it or not, Dark Knight isn't even my favorite of his!

@Menks123 - that's my favorite too. It's probably his most underrated film.

@CurlyBill - Honestly....I think it's one of the best movies of all time, at least the past 20 years or so. Bale and Jackman are brilliant, and the concept is so amazing.

@Elayem - Yeah, I always catch it when it pops up on STARZ. That's if I already haven't watched it recently. That's why Nolan is such a great director, I can watch all of his movies repeatedly and still get enjoyment.

Damn, after reading that they'll be showing Rogue One on 70mm 2D in the US, I'd hoped they'd do the same here in the England. They are, but only at one venue which is the BFI IMAX, in London. The only other 70mm IMAX theatre is in Manchester, where I'm from, but it's only showing in IMAX 3D, which I'm not too fond of, unless the film was actually shot in 3D.

I hope this isn't the case when it comes to Infinity War.

@Menks123 - It just says "in development", and there's no director or writers attached, so there's a chance this could never [frick]ing happen, but still...

@TheNewGuy123 - ughhhh, I don't mind remakes that much, but some are just untouchable and just unique.....this is one of them. So lame if it goes through, but I hope, if Nolan has a say, he stops it from happening.

@Menks123 - Hopefully he has the same deal that Zemeckis does with Back to the Future where they can't remake it until he dies. And hopefully neither of them die.

I still think Batman Begins is the best live action Batman film EVER.
Mask of the Phantasm is still the best Batman film, IMO.
