STAR WARS: Natalie Portman Responds To Rumors REVENGE OF THE SITH Once Saw Padmé Try To Kill Anakin

Natalie Portman had a memorable run as Padmé Amidala in George Lucas' Star Wars prequel trilogy, and while her time as the character ended in 2005's Revenge of the Sith, rumours and theories have since persisted about the alternate role Anakin Skywalker's wife could have played in his transformation into Darth Vader.

That stems from concept art depicting the Senator confronting her husband with a knife in hand. Talking to Vanity Fair (via SFFGazette.com), Portman shared her thoughts on the possibility, revealing it was something she was never told about and not a scene filmmaker George Lucas ever had her shoot.

"Oh, that's cool," she said of there potentially being an alternate ending for Episode III which featured Padmé trying to kill Anakin. "No, no. And cool, but nope."

"It was such a big part of my life to be part of Star Wars for so many years," Portman later told the site. "I made the first one when I was 16 years old and then this one I did when I was 22. It was really wild to do green screen. It felt like a very pure form of acting, actually."

"It's like almost like when you're a kid and you're pretending that you know your refrigerator box is your rocket ship, you know, that you have to really not just create the world inside of you, but the world around you as well."

Recently, the actress confirmed she'd be willing to reprise the role in a modern Star Wars project following Hayden Christensen's recent return. Telling Andy Cohen that "no one has asked," Portman said she's "open to it" and called her time working on the Star Wars prequels "amazing."

"It was the first time I worked digitally. I don’t think anyone was shooting that way then," she adds. "It was my first time working with a green screen. It was a whole new set of skills to pick up and a whole new world to enter."

Portman played Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and was introduced in The Phantom Menace as the Queen of Naboo. In Attack of the Clones, Padmé became a Senator and embarked on a romantic relationship with Anakin Skywalker.

Her story concluded tragically in Revenge of the Sith when Padmé, now pregnant with twins, was forced to face the fall of the Galactic Republic and the transformation of Anakin into the evil Darth Vader.

If this were disney star wars, padme would have killed anakin, then it's revealed she was actually darth vader the whole time (and making all the terrible things she did as Vader justified).

@Origame - No, they wouldn't have at all. Because they had Kylo Ren, who was most certainly a man, also changed to be a hero, all while putting Rey (a woman) in a trash romance with him and have her trip all over herself to try and fix him in TLJ.

@dagenspear - they only did that because they were ripping off darth vader. Nothing he did as kylo was considered good and he was only considered a hero when he followed rey.

The prequels are now officially better than the new ones

@Battinson - its cycles dude. during the prequels they were trashed by the same types of people trashing the sequels. all of during the same swearing these will go down as the worst star wars ever.when the sequels youth fans grow up those two will see a revitalization as they are able to add their opinions and voices to the mix. mark my words Rian Johnson and Kennedy will face the same resurgence in popularity as Lucas has now. Lucas was being beatdown the same way kennedy is getting beatdown now.

@supermanrex - no but seriously you're probably right, I just have no faith or interest in Star Wars anymore; it's a dead subject to me as comic book films are slowly becoming the same unless they wow me

@supermanrex - Not the same in any way. The PT had creativity, story and character. The ST doesn't really.

@Battinson - as a nerd thats a sad way to go about it. to each their own, but i wont let myself be so jaded i cant have fun anymore.

@dagenspear - the narrative against the PT during that time period was the exact same as your saying about the ST. trust me, especially the last jedi will re surge and suddenly be looked upon favorably in nerd circles down the line. regular people seemed to like it hence the box office success of it. the vocal pissed fans are drowning out the silent voices of the majority cause they dont care enough to be online talking about what they though was a cool flick.

@supermanrex - But it was incorrect because the PT did have a story and characters and creativity. The ST doesn't have that. Assumptions on audience circulation doesn't equate to fact.

If she had only actually killed Hayden C during filming of the first prequel film, just imagine all the needless suffering she could have prevented.

@DocSpock - if she was psychic.

Padme married Anakin after finding out he was a mass murderer who killed women and children. A woman loving her violent, psycho bad boy was most realistic writing in all of George Lucas' Star Wars.

That's funny. She's always been very negative about her time working on these films.
supermanrex
supermanrex - 12/18/2023, 9:41 AM
@CoHost - cause she doesnt have to be hide her feelings anymore and worry about backlash from unpopular opinions or she could just be trying to hop on the bandwagon and get a piece of that nostalgic pie that hayden and ewan are getting from new roles. aka she wanna cash in too. ha!

@supermanrex - no more Marvel money, now she wants Lucasfilm money, all under the same roof at Disney. That’s all it’s really about though.
