The American Film Institute annually honors the ten best films and the ten best tv-shows of the year with an AFI Award. This year films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Mad Max: Fury Road has been chosen, while Game of Thrones, Mr. Robot, and Better Call Saul were honored in the television category. Traditionally, being awarded an AFI Award have been a good omen for a best-picture Oscar nomination, as 6 out of 10 of last years AFI Award honorees scored a best picture Oscar-nomination. Moreover, 7 out of 10 AFI Award honorees were also nominated for the best picture Oscar in the previous year. With this in mind, the chances for Star Wars: The Force Awakens or Mad Max: Fury Road being nominated for an Oscar for 'Best Picture' seem to be more than good.

The full list of AFI Award honorees are as follows:

I loved 'Straight Outta Compton' but on AFI's top ilms of the year list? WOw. I'd love to see some people's heads explode if that were nominated for Best Picture. Not countin' on it but still.

Haven't seen it but sorry not to see 'THe Hate8ful Eight' on the list.

Nice to see 'The Force Awakens' there. I guess I'll be able to put in MY two cents on that when I see it in 17 hrs and 33 minutes from now.
