The American Film Institute annually honors the ten best films and the ten best tv-shows of the year with an AFI Award. This year films such as
Star Wars: The Force Awakens and
Mad Max: Fury Road has been chosen, while
Game of Thrones,
Mr. Robot, and
Better Call Saul were honored in the television category. Traditionally, being awarded an AFI Award have been a good omen for a best-picture Oscar nomination, as 6 out of 10 of last years AFI Award honorees scored a best picture Oscar-nomination. Moreover, 7 out of 10 AFI Award honorees were also nominated for the best picture Oscar in the previous year. With this in mind, the chances for
Star Wars: The Force Awakens or
Mad Max: Fury Road being nominated for an Oscar for 'Best Picture' seem to be more than good.
