STAR WARS: THE HIGH REPUBLIC "Phase III" Will Kick Off Next Month In New Marvel Comics Series

Marvel Comics has revealed (via SFFGazette.com) that a new era of Star Wars: The High Republic is very nearly upon us. Lucasfilm is about to embark on "Phase III" of telling stories set during this period, and it all kicks off next month with a new wave of Star Wars novels and comics set during the Golden Age of the Jedi.

We've learned that on November 8, writer Cavan Scott and artist Ario Aninditio will return for Marvel's flagship High Republic ongoing comic series in Star Wars: The High Republic #1.

You can take a look at the covers for the highly-anticipated debut issue, including a connecting piece by Mico Suayan that will run across the first four issues, below. In an effort to avoid spoilers, the final part of Suayan's piece isn't going to be revealed until a later date (so we'll be sure to keep you updated).

The new series picks up after the shocking events of Phase II as Keeve Trennis, now a Jedi Master, fights to reunite the Jedi and restore hope to the Galaxy Far, Far Away. Complete with new heroes, mysteries, and threats, the High Republic stories take place centuries prior to the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, taking fans into a previously unseen period where the Jedi were at the height of their glory.

"A year after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, Marchion Ro and the Nihil stand victorious," reads an official story synopsis. "The galaxy is in turmoil: The once mighty Jedi are outclassed, the Republic is on its knees. On the edges of the galactic frontier, Jedi Master Keeve Trennis leads a desperate assault against an invading force!"

"The odds are stacked against her, but a Jedi always clings to hope. The Force is always with her..right? Not so fast!"

Addressing plans for the series, Scott says, "I'm over the moon to be returning to our original High Republic characters as we reach the climatic final phase of the publishing initiative. I'm particularly excited to be working with Ario Anindito again as well as to welcome Jim Towe to the art team. Their work is truly stunning! I can't wait for readers to see it for themselves!"

The first live-action Star Wars project set during this period will be The Acolyte and that's currently expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2024. It remains to be seen how much of what we've seen on the page will inform that series but it should provide good background information if nothing else!

After the way they disregarded the Kanan comics with Bad Batch, cba with all these

@FireandBlood - yeah, written media has always been kind of treated as secondary canon. Which is a shame reall, as the High Republic and the Nihil is some cool lore

@bkmeijer1 - I don't think the High Republic will be disregarded any time soon. Seems like the era will make it to live-action soon.

@Drace24 - true. There's pretty much nothing to contradict or retcon, unlike the Clone Wars, Empire and New Republic eras.

And I think The Acolyte is the final days of the High Republic, so it'll indeed make the jump to live-action soon.

@Drace24 - Which will undoubtedly retcon or change the cannon of the books. I agree though, Disney seems very keen on making a lot of High Republic media, maybe they won’t disregard too much of the written stuff.

OFF TOPIC!

With Deadpool 3 in Limbo what Marvel Studios movie will be released on May 3, 2024? Filming still hasn't resumed.

Deadpool 3 Removed from Disney's First-Half Of 2024 Schedule, Suggesting A Delay. According to the latest Q3 2023 earnings report from Walt Disney, the schedule of upcoming theatrical releases seems to have been updated to exclude Deadpool 3 after a May 3, 2024 release was confirmed earlier this year, with no sign of a new date.

@AllsGood - Marvel used to own that first weekend of May.

Obviously 2020 and 2021 were exceptions, plus Infinity War and Endgame both got bumped a week earlier in some territories.

But that was their weekend.

Depending on when the actor strike gets wrapped up, which we would all think is soon since the writers strike ended, I’m thinking Deadpool 3 in July, Cap 4 in November and Thunderbolts in early 2025.

@AllsGood - Cap 4, because it finished filming and seemingly has no ties to Deadpool

@mountainman - Captain America: Brave New World was completely done filming already way into Postproduction stage. Could take the May 3 2024.

@AllsGood - Makes sense. That movie had that slot originally, but it seems Marvel swapped them because they thought Deadpool 3 would be the bigger earner.

I haven’t seen BNW switch back to that May slot but maybe it will.

I quite enjoyed phase 1 but phase 2 was a drag.

So it's basically "She Wars" now.

Kennedy has destroyed this franchise beyond repair.

Do people still buy Star Wars merchandise and toys like before?

They use to make billions in toy sales

Or has Kathleen Kennedy destroyed that part of the Star Wars brand too?

WarMonkey

@WakandaTech - There is no Ahsoka merchandise because the manufacturers have been burned by not being able to sell SW stuff for awhile now. Disney SW toys just don't sell. The old Lucas stuff still does though
