Yoda: The Greatest Jedi Master Finally Explored?

First off, this is my second article I’ve written for this site. And to be fair, I’m going to be quite bias. I love Master Yoda. I love everything from his green skin to his weird speech patterns to his epic fighting skills. I have been secretly waiting for this announcement for years (trust me, I’ve had the dreams of him beating off waves of the Sith). And even worse, I am not ashamed of this love.

If Star Wars was real, I would make sure I had a plethora of midichlorians in my blood stream and learn only from Master Yoda. Not Anakin, not Obi-Wan, not Luke, not Darth Maul, or Emperor Palpatine (his laugh gives me the willies…fantastic actor, but geez) but my master would be Yoda. I would seek him out and learn from him. He has strength, courage, a gentle soul, wisdom, and such a high belief in the force that nothing shakes him. But what if there was a time that it did? And he stumbled? (And no I'm not talking about with the Emperor)

I remember, way back when I was just a little boy, and after seeing the Original Trilogy for the first time; I asked my father, “Do you think Yoda fights, Dad?”

My dad said, “Heck no, have you seen his cane? He’d fall over and break his friggin back. He’s like 999 years old.”

And I thought, it would really be something, if Yoda turned out to be a fighting machine. And on May 16, 2002, I sat in the theatre hoping that Attack of the Clones would be better than the Phantom Menace. It wasn’t, but what made it all worthwhile was when I, my mother, and every single person in the movie theatre jumped out of their seats cheering because Yoda was finally going to show Count Dooku how to duel. There aren’t any words for how I felt for that sequence.

Yoda’s arc, his journey, is known to us, but only the end of it. There is so much awesomeness to him as a character, but I want to know how he got it. His past is what makes him mysterious, but that’s only because there is no story about it. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a compelling tale to tell.

How did he earn so much respect?
Where did he come from? Did he have a family and how did he lose it?
Who trained him? How did he become the greatest jedi duelist? Or the greatest master?
Was there a cost to his greatness?
But most importantly: How many Sith does it take to conquer Yoda? And fail? 

I’m excited and if you’re not, then I’m not sure what exactly floats your boat.
There are many parts to Star Wars, but Yoda is very much a part of its spirit. I just wish to see more and I kinda think you all do too. Even you Boba Fett lovers deep down.
