Heavily Edited Versions of The SPIDER-MAN Franchise Films is Coming as SONY Launches "Clean Version" Program

Sony has announced they will be launching a new initiative entitled Clean Version which will bring their library of films towards a more family friendly audience. The films would be presented in a heavily edited version which would devoid them of any extreme violence, language, or any mature content in question. A total of 24 films have been announced to be part of this lineup so far including Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It’s currently only available now for digital retailers which include iTunes, VUDU and FandangoNOW. They will not replace the current versions and serve only as a secondary option. The full list films currently also included in this line-up goes….

Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters 2, Grown Ups, Grown Ups 2, Pixels, Elysium, White House Down, Captain Phillips, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Battle of the Year, Hancock, Inferno, Moneyball, Step Brothers. 50 First Dates, Easy A, Big Daddy, and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Curious. But Raimi's films in particular seemed more brutal at times than a Spidey film need be. Maybe just the end of number 1?
Also, why waste Spidey's mad skills on fisticuffs??? One sock'd be enough to take out Doc Ock, fer instance.

@auditore - Yessir, 'more than needs be'.
Sure the comics can be violent, but I'm simply saying that aspect in the films seems unnecessary. You have a film featuring a whimsical character like Spidey that is obviously marketed to kids especially - it doesn't need to be The Dark Knight.
To me, it feels outta place. However, I'm only referring to a relatively few moments.
This does seem strange, still.

@Lem1 - super hero movies are not made specifically for children there are heavy moments in them

even kid movies are full of heavy dark moments a man tries to commit suicide in the incredibles and we all remember this scene:

I don't have a problem with this at all. They're only secondary versions, and nothing is happening to the originals - they're not going anywhere, & people will still be able to get them.

It's a bit amusing for people to argue against third-party editing of a movie to trim out parts some people find objectionable by saying "no, you can't do that, the studios own the movie" - but then tell the studios they can't do what they want with their own movies.

But frankly, the Spidey movies never struck me as particularly graphic or violent. Of course, that's the idea, I guess - everybody has a different view on that. And maybe there are some parents who think some parts are too much for the five-year-olds, I don't know. Of course, then there will be others who will say "But why didn't you cut *this* part out?" or "Why did you cut *that*?"

Still, the studio has the right to do it. We'll just have to sit back and see if it's successful...
