During the Television Critics Association panel for his new FX series Atlanta, Donald Glover was asked about his mystery role in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. For obvious reasons, the Community alum is “not allowed” to reveal who he’s playing in the Marvel/ Sony reboot— “I’m sworn to secrecy”—but he did talk up the overall experience.

“It’s really great,” said Glover.  “I had a really great time on that set. [director] Jon [Watts] is doing a really good job as a director. It was really fun to be home.” The actor/rapper then recalled how the buzz surrounding his unintentional campaign to play Miles Morales (before Andrew Garfield was cast to lead The Amazing Spider-Man) might have put him on Marvel’s radar. “It was kind of an accident,” he explained. “I really wasn’t out there trying to do that. I feel like the internet kind of just did that, but it was cool because now I get to see from the inside a lot of that stuff, which is all you can ask for as a fan of something.”

Donald Glover saying he had a great time shooting Spider-Man: Homecoming implies that he has already completed his scenes, which could mean that he doesn’t have a major role. Nonetheless, there’s reportedly only one month of filming to go in Atlanta, Georgia, before the production supposedly moves over to New York City. But speaking about the current shooting location in the Georgian city, which is the titular setting of his new TV show on FX, Glover said it was convenient for his schedule though he would’ve signed on regardless.

“If they were shooting in Colorado I probably still would’ve gone,” Donald Glover added. “But it being in Atlanta was kind of like icing on the cake. It was nice.” What do you think?

Directed by Jon Watts, Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland in the title role, with Zendaya, Michael Barbieri, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Kenneth Choi, Martin Starr, Donald Glover, Logan Marshall-Green, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr., and Michael Keaton among several others. The film is set for release July 7, 2017.

@drbong - it doesn't matter what Atlanta looks like. If the movie forces us to believe that they are in NY then they will be in NY. Simple as that bro. lol

"The actor/rapper then recalled how the buzz surrounding his unintentional campaign to play Miles Morales."

Um...no. Miles Morales didn't exist yet. In fact, the character was created as a byproduct of Glover's campaign.
