SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Will Not Reference The Netflix Heroes

Were you hoping for some easter eggs from the MCU Netflix street level heroes in the upcoming Spidey film?, then be prepared to be disappointed.

So ever since the announcement that there would be television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, something fans have wanted to see was to have characters like Daredevil or Quake interact with the big screen heroes, or for Spider-Man to face the Kingpin, but so far any chances for there to be a crossovers have been unlikely, without even a single reference. With the announcement of Spider-Man: Homecoming, some fans have hoped that since the movie would be set in New York City, that it would include at least some easter eggs of the shows that aired on Netflix, but during the set visit for Spider-Man: Homecoming, producer Eric Carroll confirmed that the movie will not include any references to the Devil of Hell's Kitchen or any of the Defenders, but he does not rule out any easters eggs for future sequels.

"Not specifically referenced in this movie, no. I think that's something we all think would be fun and it's definitely a card i would love to see played, if not sooner than later. But as of now, it's not referenced in this movie."

I think people need to realize that the Netflix shows are JUST getting to the crossover, and we are JUST entering the third year of their existence basically. And the whole thing is they want to earn the crossover, not just between the intended crossover--Defenders-- but the crossovers between networks over the movies, and that will be harder than Defenders, for obvious reasons. But hopefully a year or two after Defenders hits netflix, the universe, as in AOS, the netflix stuff, the movies, all feel as cohesive as ever.

@CBMAficionado - Exactamondo! I think they should start small. First, every Netflix show for them right now needs to at least have their second season(perhaps excluding Defenders) before they do something really ambitious. And even the, maybe start small. Have a couple cool cameo or guest appearances between Cloak and Dagger and AOS. Then move up to Netflix and AOS cross pollination. You know, start small, then make their way up the big guns. But references to the netflix stuff for sure need to be referenced in Spider-Man sequel, and SPidey references in Netflix shows seems like a must.

@ScarletWarlock - I think you need to realize that these are two separate companies working on these projects at these points, they'll never crossover. Not after Netflix gets out of "the crossover", not after Infinity War, never.

The Netflix shows are JUST CROSSING OVER themselves so I don't really expect this film to reference the characters just yet.

I definitely want to see the characters at lead hinted at down the road, but the Netflix shows, and AOS, have built their own nice, respectable little universes that are admirable all on their now.

That makes sense. The Netflix shows and Homecoming are pretty drastically different in tone.

@Valdez - I think it'd be cool to see those intersect. Riff on how different they are and it works.

Peter sets out to look into the Devil of Hell's Kitchen. Once he reaches Hell's Kitchen at night, he's weirded out and how DARK everything is.



Imagine Spidey creepily following DD. He's wall crawling in a dark alley on Matt's tail and Matt senses him and tosses his billy club. Spidey then dodges it with his "senses."



Spidey: "its somehow darker here than it is everywhere else in the city."

I think if you subtly poke fun at how different they are, it could work. Something like that. Whoever enter's who's "world" they're uncomfortable. Matt would be uncomfortable with Spidey's day activities while Peter is uncomfortable with how DANK Hell's Kitchen is.

@BlackBeltJones - That's a good point. I'm sure they could find a way to make it work. Still, it'd be kind of odd seeing this Spider-Man facing a version of the Kingpin who decapitated someone with a car door.

@Valdez - I never liked Kingpin as a Spidey villain. Always felt better as a DD adversary.

Honestly, I don't think we'll ever get a fully fledged Spidey vs Kingpin, you're right, it wouldn't fit.

Then again, I think it if Spidey ever faced Kingpin, it'd have to be on Netflix. Kingpin has to stay fully true to who he is imo and he can do that in Netflix. Spidey can he Spidey on film or on Netflix. Kingpin could cameo in the film but he can't be full fledged Fisk though.
