SPOILERS: Kevin Feige Comments On SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING'S Shocking Final Scene

Peter Parker's first adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe concluded with an interesting twist that's sure to shake things up in the sequel; find out what Kevin Feige had to say! SPOILERS AHEAD!

While Spider-Man: Homecoming may have been a more grounded affair than fans were used to, the film still went out on a surprising (and funny) note. As the film closes, Peter puts his newly-returned costume on, unmasking with his back to the doorway....a doorway that has his Aunt May standing in it.

According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, this was an element he had wanted to include in a film as early as Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2, and was thankful that an earlier film didn't broach the subject first.  “J. Michael Straczynski did an issue when he was doing his run of Spidey many years ago where she discovered the secret. I think it was in the laundry or something, and they had a sit-down scene. And probably going back to Spider-Man 2, I would sort of carry that issue around and go, ‘We should do this someday, we should do this someday.’ And it was great luck that it hadn’t been done yet. That was always part of the plan."

Feige likened the move to when Marvel Studios chose to have Tony stark reveal himself as Iron Man in the 2008 film. "And very much like our instinct to say, ‘Let’s have Tony Stark say "I'm Iron Man"' at the end. Well, what does that mean for the next movie? I don’t know, but it will force us to do something unique. We did not want to do the secret identity thing at that point in the MCU. And now, same thing. The dynamic now is forced to be something fresh and something unique going forward.”

While this won't be the first time that Aunt May has learned Peter is Spider-Man, it's the first time (explicitly) on film and extremely early in Peter's crimefighting career, so it will be interesting to see how (or even if) this gets handled in Avengers: Infinity War. What did you think of the final scene? Let us know down below.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

I had so much fun with this movie! Finally got a chance to see it last night and I was definitely not disappointed. The 2017 comic book movies just keep on killing it

@ALegendaryPanda - i enjoyed the movie too. and i'm completely on board with the new MJ. i'd much rather have this MJ than some red headed actress wannabe that is at times a vapid nymph-like drama queen.

@darthgeekboy - i would happily have rubbed her entire existence from the movie and it wouldn't have had any detrimental affect. she was dull and i'm glad she isn't MJ.

Yes I immediately recognized from where they got their inspiration for that final scene. It was the first comic book arc I ever bought. And it was a lot more dramatic when it happened there.

While Im still kinda peeved he has the AI suit... (I guess Ill get over it). I did like that he turned the invitation down at the end. The Iron Spider suit looked pretty damn cool... but it's not time yet.
