Sony Pictures' Madame Web has added another cast member, with Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Step Brothers) signing on for a supporting role. As per usual, details on his character are being kept under wraps.

Scott is coming off an Emmy Award nomination for his critically-acclaimed performance in the superb Severance.

The SPUMC ("Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters") movie has assembled a very impressive cast, and there's a rumor doing the rounds that the project was actually developed as a team-up film with Dakota Johnson's clairvoyant lead sharing the spotlight with a number of other female heroes. That remains to be seen, but Deadline also seems to think that it's s strong possibility.

One thing all of the trades seem to agree on is that Sony is hoping to utilize the title character as their version of Doctor Strange.

Production on the mysterious Madame Web is now underway, with some recent set photos seemingly hinting that the movie will be set in the early noughties.

The movie also stars Emma Roberts, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced and Celeste O'Connor. S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) is directing from a screenplay by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

Madame Web was recently given an official release date, and is set to hit theaters on July 7, 2023.

@IcePyke - at first I read clones, and thought of Miles Warren. Now that would be unexpected casting

Oh maaaaan I would have loved Scott to be in the MCU. Pretty gutted he's getting involved with the SPUMC.

Anyway I'm looking forward to Scott grilling Scott about this on future eps.

@TheManWithoutFear - I always felt he would have made a good Foggy Nelson counter to Charlie Cox.

F#ck this movie and the series of actions that led to it getting made.

@DrReedRichards - I blame anyone that knew that Venom was going to be bad but said [frick] it and watched it in the theaters anyway.

@inkniron -

I blame anyone who tried to promote Venom as better than it was purely out of spite for the MCU.

@DrReedRichards - i blame the vast majority of general audiences who actually ENJOYED Venom. I mean I know yall can’t help what ya love but cmon, set higher standards people…

This is why Late Late Show flies under the radar unnoticed for years with Craig Ferguson, a genius, then James Cordon, an unfunny twit, takes over and it becomes a huge hit. Damn man, people be DUMB.

@connorblaze -

The people who actually enjoyed it are few and far between. I hold no ill intent towards those. My issue is with the folks who tried to defend in the same vein as "Suck it, Marvel! Other studios can succeed with your characters too, and you can never have them all back! So, ha! Nyeh! Deal with it!"

@DrReedRichards - I think we travel in different circles, much to my chagrin haha. I unfortunately dont have any friends or even acquaintances who are big into pop culture. But everyone I’ve talked about Venom to, from teenage cousins to people at work, seems to think it was great, which drives me nuts lol. Havent met anyone who hates the mcu like you describe, most people either seem to love it or are indifferent to it in my experience, Im suprised people who are into comic book movies would say that? Except for those snyder wierdos most cbm fans enjoy the mcu right?

Why do I have a feeling that actor's agents are luring them to these roles with the promise that it's part of the MCU, because it's a "Spider-man" property, just for that cut of the check.

I really want these movies to be good, but Sony just repeatedly hurts my feelings. I am hopeful, for Kraven, Venom 3 and Madame Webb...but I just cant. To all the actors out there, put us out of our misery. Don't sign the contracts.

Honestly, he would've been a good Older Peter Parker at one point

@Dredd97 - what if they do cast him as Peter Parker?

Set photos show this movie is (partly) taking place in 2003, so maybe that's when we meet young Spider-Man and Scott is playing Peter Parker in the present day
