Deadline reports that The Flight Attendant star Zosia Mamet is the latest addition to Sony Pictures' Madame Web. As per usual, there's no word on who the actor will play, so let the speculation commence! What we do know is that the movie boasts a massive ensemble, leaving us to wonder how much of a mix of comic book and original characters we'll get.

Dakota Johnson has, of course, already been cast as the title character, while other recent additions include Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps, and Adam Scott.

As for Mamet, as well as starring opposite Kaley Cuoco in The Flight Attendant, she's also known for her work in Girls, Parenthood, and Mad Men. This will mark her biggest role to date, so fingers crossed the actor has chose wisely by boarding Sony's divisive Marvel Universe.

In the comic books, Madame Web is typically portrayed as an elderly woman, Cassandra Webb, who is blind and linked up to a life support system that resembles a web. She has psychic abilities and frequently uses other heroes to fight her battles, leading to speculation that this movie is actually some sort of female-led team-up.

However, based on what we've seen in set photos (find all the latest Madame Web news by clicking here), it looks like Johnson is playing the Julia Carpenter version of the character who was the second Madame Web.

Fans don't have a great deal of faith in Madame Web with the writers of Morbius responsible for penning the movie, but there's always a chance they'll surprise us. Either way, we'd imagine this movie will be a very important next chapter in the Marvel Universe Sony is dreaming up.

S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) is directing Madame Web from a screenplay by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The movie is currently expected to swing into theaters on July 7, 2023.

In the thumbnail for Madame Web’s comic image… does she have a thick chin beard? I just can’t see anything else …

The only reason I was excited for Morbius to come out was so that I wouldn’t have to scroll past Morbius articles every day. Now that this has taken its place, I kind of miss the Morbius articles.

After Morbius I really do not want to see any of Sony's quasi-Spider-Manless films lol

DC is canceling Batgirl, meanwhile Sony still thinks this idea is worth anything.

@KWilly - The thing with Batgirl is they have just wasted $90 million making it and not releasing it, you'd think they'd want to get some money back.

@marvel72 - but they do make it back. Sort of

By canning it now, they have to pay 90 million bucks taxes less. Essentially, no money is lost I guess

@bkmeijer1 - I guess you're right,if it is shit as well, don't want to tarnish the DC Comics name.

@marvel72 - it's not like they have been in the process of already doing that at WB anyway

I would love for someone to poll the actors and see how many of them thought they were signing up for the MCU and are now kicking themselves as the internet continues to dog Sony.

OT: As expected from the most toxic fandom on Earth, Leslie Grace's Instagram is being trolled by Snyder fanatics.

Ah yes, Flight Attendant. Another show I want to watch, but can't find the time to do so.

Also, Sony I hear you can get a tax write-off if you drop a movie late in production. It's not too late

LMFAO This Madam Web movie seemingly has an ALL female cast and ONE dude. This is looking like the SONYVERSE Birds Of Prey, and that did SO WELL for the WB DCEU

I really want to believe that the folks in charge of creating the films for SPUMC only got names like Madame Web and El Muerto after serious conversations with Kevin Feige, regarding which characters weren't in his latest MCU plans. There is no other possible explanation.

Still in time: I like Venom movies, even though I know they aren't good!

I bet they will find out who viewed Batgirl and make sure that they don't see a test screening of this movie... Just incase
