MADAME WEB Star Sydney Sweeney Says Donning Spider-Woman's Costume Was "The Coolest Thing Ever"

Sydney Sweeney's star is on the rise and, if Madame Web is a success (a projected $25 million opening weekend suggests otherwise), then she may soon be a household name.

The actress already has a devoted fanbase, of course, and the prospect of seeing her play a superhero is one that's excited comic book fans. In Madame Web, Sweeney will suit up as Julia Cornwall, this reality's take on Julia Carpenter, the second woman to hold the "Spider-Woman" mantle after Jessica Drew.

What little we've seen of Sweeney in costume suggests Sony is sticking to the comics, though the suits have still been compared to those seen on The CW (the lack of lenses in Spider-Woman's mask has also disappointed some).

Appearing on a recent episode of Hot Ones, the Euphoria alum reflected on the experience of suiting up and it's apparent she enjoyed the experience.

"I was in Boston already - we filmed in Boston - and we had like this really cool skin done of our body, so they could get like a full 3D measurement of us. And they showed us sketches, and I was like 'Oh my god that's so cool!' because it had like full 3D sketches of our faces," Sweeney recalled. "And when I put it on, I truly...I felt like a superhero. It was the coolest thing ever."

We don't know how much screentime these costumes will get, particularly as trailers and TV spots have strongly hinted they'll only appear during glimpses into the future. However, if Madame Web ends with a group of female spider-heroes assembling, we may see a lot more of them moving forward (Spider-Woman vs. Venom, perhaps?).

Talking about the project last year, Sweeney said, "I couldn't be more excited. I can't wait to be able to talk about it. I can't wait to be able to be next to the girls that I filmed with - Dakota and Isabela, and Celeste. We had so much fun together. And I'm really excited that it's just gonna be a powerhouse of badass females for the world to see."

"Superheroes have been my entire life," the Anyone but You star continued. "Those [films] are all my parents ever wanted to go see. I think I've seen The Avengers probably 20, 30-plus times. My family, they love [them]... I could not have made them happier choosing to do that project [Madame Web]."

Meanwhile, in another universe...In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing's most enigmatic heroines.

The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures...if they can all survive a deadly present.

SJ Clarkson directs from a screenplay she wrote with Claire Parker. Morbius scribes Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless are also expected to be credited for their work on the script, though it's currently unclear which draft they wrote. The movie's confirmed cast members include Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott.

Madame Web arrives in theaters worldwide on February 14.

Movie doesn't look good to me but I'll admit her costume looks solid. Good for her.

Maybe omitting the white eyes is a work around for the "take your mask off and see your face" deal that's always been for spidey Characters. Not even clear goggle or something? It looks off, but she definitely looks the part lol

She just totally let the air out and ruined the phrase "coolest thing ever".

I’m about as interested in this as I was in the all female ghostbusters, which I still haven’t seen

Her “fan base” is just a bunch of dudes who saw her knockers in euphoria and are hoping to see them again, it’s not based on her acting talent, smh

It's amazing to me just how bad all of the Sony movies have been. And yet, they keep churning them out.

At this point, it's sort of fun to just see what they think looks good.

Personally, I call it 'hot' rather than 'cool', but that's just me...
