Spider-Man 3, what can you say about it? I have a lot to say about it. Is the movie good, or bad? Let’s find out. When I first heard about Spider-Man 3, I was hyped! When I heard Venom was gonna be in the film, I was really hyped!!! I saw all the posters, all the trailers and got the toys too. But the thing that’s disappointing…is the movie itself. Buckle up guys…’cause we’re gonna dive in the least favourite Spider-Man film of all time.

The movie has a lot of plot holes. Peter struggling to marry Mary Jane, the love triangle between Peter, Mary Jane, Gwen and Eddie, Harry avenging his father’s death, Sandman as Uncle Ben’s killer, Peter getting a staff job, Spidey and his Symbiote costume, Sandman trying to get money to cure his daughter and Mary Jane fired from her job. I’ve got pages of these, I can go on for hours! The thing that bothers me in the main titles is that it ends with the Brooklyn Bridge. I mean, come on! Why couldn’t we’ve seen Spidey swinging for the last time in Spider-Man 2 instead of that bridge. Another thing that bothers me is the casting. Eric Foreman as Eddie Brock? Really? Is that the best they could come up with? You could have at least casted Gerard Butler as Venom, because in the comics Venom had muscles and was stronger than Spider-Man. In this film, he looks skinny, he’s not saying “We”. Instead he says “I”. But in the Ultimate version of Venom, he DOES say “I”. He also shows his true face. Hey, if you wanna scare us to shit our pants, then give us the scary Venom face. I’ve been waiting to see Venom and all we’ve got is Eric Foreman in a poor Venom costume. I love the design, but it’s not looking good for Eddie Brock.

Also, too many characters! Gwen and Sandman. Gwen’s there because to make MJ upset. Wasn’t she supposed to die? If she didn’t appear in the movie, the criteria wouldn’t be happening. And Sandman’s there because he’s the one who killed Uncle Ben, later in the movie…it turned out to be an accident. What was I watching, a superhero movie or a drama? I hate dramas. I want a TRUE superhero film.

But having Harry as the Green Goblin is quite cool. But having Harry in a paintball mask and a flying snowboard? No thank you! I was expecting Harry in a suit from the 1st movie.

Also, the music. Why Christopher Young? I like Danny Elfman’s music. He could have made Venom’s theme dark, I mean, REALLY dark. Goblin’s theme would have been like in the 1st film, but a bit quicker. Sandman’s theme would have none, because I don’t think he deserved to be in the movie. And lastly, Peter Parker himself. What have you done to yourself? I wanted to see Spidey aggressive and mean to anyone he loves. But I have seen in the big screen, is him dancing! Why? What was Sam Raimi thinking? But what made me cheer up was J.K Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson again. He saved the movie all by his lines, his sense of humor and his performance. He also says “What are you waiting for? Chinese New Year?” *FACT: This line was first said in The Simpsons. J.K Simmons was playing JJJ too but as the guy who tries to make poems…about Spider-Man*. The battle scenes were bad-ass. Bruce Campbell. Best B actor in the universe. He played as the French guy in the restaurant. He was amazing, but does it creep Peter out that there are several Bruce Campbell’s in the universe.
Look at Spider-Man:

Then at Spider-Man 2:

And in this film:

The coolest part I’ve ever seen was BIG Venom. He looked cool and scary at the same time! I also love in the parade, one of the girls were holding a sign saying “Is there a Spider-Woman?”. That’s a reference to Spider-Woman.
Now…to the performances. Tobey delivers an average performance as Peter Parker and Spider-Man. His lines were OK, but dull at some places. Dunst as MJ…it was OK either. Franco as Harry…good. Topher Grace’s…OK. Everyone else…average. But Jameson and Campbell…SPECTACULAR!!! The video game itself looks different. I mean, no Sandman as Uncle Ben’s killer, no Gwen Stacy and no emo/dancing Peter Parker! The video game maybe bad too, but it’s fun to play.

The lines weren’t THAT bad, but they were bad. I didn’t get the line Peter said “You want forgiveness…get religion!”. It’s like if Spidey was a preist! There was no classic Raimi close up shots! It ain’t a Sam Raimi movie without those shots! And the line “With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility”. It was mentioned that in the first 2 films but not here? I better hear that line in The Amazing Spider-Man, Andrew’s performance looks amazing in the film! Now, why couldn’t the movie be a about the Symbiote taking over Peter’s costume and Harry trying avenge his father’s death? It would have been better!!! The music was OK, the performance was average and the directing is so-so. But the effects an action scenes were awesome.

OVERALL: 2.5/5

This movie may be bad, but it’s fun watching it for a guilty pleasure!

My following review for The Amazing Spider-Man will be on Wednesday.

@ToDanny you're right. To be honest I had a difficulty to choose a rating for this film. I had between 2.5/5 an 3/5. I should change it.

I actually really like Spider-Man 3. I think it's even superior to the original film (which I also love). Flawed? Yes. But I still don't understand the hate and feel it's a wonderful movie, among the best of the genre.

This is a case of trying to do too much. It's not as bad as "Batman & Robin." It suffers similarly: too many characters not enough screen time or exposition to make everyone gel into the story and have any real, well-paced progression. "The Last Stand" and "Wolverine" had the same issue.

The moral to the story: stick to the formula that already worked and build upon the previous movie (or two).

Venom shouldn't have been in this movie and the sandman wasn't the greatest villain they could have used from the spidey universe, but the fx they used on the sandman's image was really good. But making him the killer of uncle Ben and having Peter forgive him at the end was terrible. The black suit Spidey parts were good apart from that weird dance scene and the relationship between Harry and Pete was well developed. Mary Jane may as well have not been in this movie as her screen presence was that of a dried squid. The worst Spider-man movie of the bunch for sure but in no way a terrible movie. If they had let Sam Raimi have more creative freedom then it would have been so much better.

Spiderman 3 was... disappointing in so many ways. 2 set up Venom perfectly. John Jameson could have gone to space and brought back the symbiote. That could've been the introduction, similar to the 90's cartoon. As for the rest of the film... well at this point it really doesn't matter. All I know is that Garfield's performance is going to make these previous films especially 3 look like Bantha Poodoo

It wasn't Sam raimis fault. Blame Sony , they forced venom in and the emo dance was to show Sony don't mess with Sam raimi. Lol
