Remember May 3rd 2002? It was the date when Spider-Man was released and my first time seeing a superhero movie in the big-screen. Now, to be fair, I haven’t read the comics until NOW! This movie made me believe that there is a Spider-Man somewhere around the world. From performances like Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe and Kirsten Dunst and a directing from Sam Raimi, I loved this movie. I even remember almost half of a movie when I first watched it. So, is this movie any good? Let’s find out.

So basically it’s an origin story Raimi style. I mean, Mary Jane the first girl to be Peter’s girlfriend, webs coming out of his wrists and giving Peter a six-pack? Well, let’s give it a try. We have Green Goblin as the first villain to be the arch-nemesis. *FACT: This first villain to battle Spider-Man was The Chameleon*

There were scenes and lines that were corny, but enjoyable. The cast for the movie was good and the style looks cool. There was the scene, which I think that was really ridiculous, was the scene where kid stands there as the balloon globe gonna kill him and Spider-Man saves him. I mean, really? Do you want Spider-Man to save you? The children in this film are really dumb. There are scenes that were memorable to me and for everyone, for example, the upside-down kiss. Before Steve Roger’s sacrifice in Captain America: The First Avenger, the kiss from Spider-Man was romantic in any superhero movie.

Or the part where Peter tries to shoot a web out of his wrists, which was funny. The performances were great, but I don’t see why Doug Walker (Nostalgia Critic) hates Willem Dafoe’s performance. Personally, I liked his performance because he was dark, scary and sometimes he was corny. Hell, even in the bloopers, Green Goblin was creepy. There was a screen test where Goblin was looking like from the comics. Why couldn’t we have Green Goblin look like from the comics instead of Green Iron-Man? I have NO idea. Tobey Maguire’s performance was good, but how a he wasn’t funny and skinny? The only line in the movie I found funny was the part where he fights against BoneSaw.
BS: What are you doing up there?
SM: Staying away from you. That’s a cute outfit. Did your husband give it to you?
I found it funny, but at some parts as Spider-Man he was like a cry-baby and sounds like a girl. Speaking of girls, Kirsten Dunst’s acting as Mary Jane was average. Because she never shuts the hell up throughout the trilogy! She’s like a dumbass in distress, she gets kidnapped by villain, Spider-Man defeats the villain, gets the girls, happy ending! But I liked her performance as Mary Jane, but I think Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man will top her over. The story is like going BEYOND the comics, we get to see J Jonah Jameson (played by J.K.Simmons). To be fair, he was like THE best thing in the trilogy and I’m hoping for him to return in the rebooted sequel. Spider-Man looked like a buff and had webs coming out of his wrists. But couldn’t they make him smarter and skinny like in the comics? The scenes had the traditional Raimi close up shot. I had Evil Dead memories for those shots. The graphics were a bit poor, but for a time like this, it was bad-ass. The music by Danny Elfman was amazing and the themes were superb. Especially the theme for Spider-Man. But I hope James Horner’s theme will be a superior than Elfman’s. The effects weren’t THAT bad, but besides…it was the effects they could have gotten. So basically, the movie isn’t bad, it just has some flaws. The performances were great, the action scenes were bad-ass, the story was good, but there are things that are misleading.

Overall: 4/5

This movie was my top 1 Spider-Man film, but will The Amazing Spider-Man be my NEW top 1 Spider-Man film? Find out on July 3rd.

"This movie will always be my top 1 Spider-Man film, but will The Amazing Spider-Man be my NEW top 1 Spider-Man film? Find out on July 3rd. " When you write it will always be your #1 spider man movie it kind of answered your question...

Defoe played his part very well IMO...TM and KD played well what they were given but it wasn't how Spidey or Mary Jane should be.

"*FACT: This first villain to battle Spider-Man was The Lizard. Or Chameleon*"

It was Chameleon

Yes, cause heaven forbid the poor child goes into total shock and freezes

"There was a screen test where Goblin was looking like from the comics. Why couldn’t we have Green Goblin look like from the comics instead of Green Iron-Man?"

Because it looked [frick]ing retarded!

Good review. I personally am relieved to have this fresh take on Spiderman only because there were so many things missing from the original trilogy. Web-shooters, wise-cracks, showing Peter's genius. None of that was present and it still annoys the crap out of me. So glad it's going to be done right this time.

I SAW THE AMAZING SPIDER MAN TONIGHT!!!

Honestly I thought it was fantastic, first time the essence of the character has truly been captured on screen. Garfield and Stone are great. The guys who play Conners and Cptn. Stacy are great as well. 5/5, one of the best mainstream comic book movies along with the Nolan Batmans and Iron Man, IMO.

I agree with you. J.K. Simmons was the best part of the movies. I thought he nailed the role perfectly.

Hope he returns

This movie introduced me to Spider-Man. I loved it from Tobey as Peter Parker/Spider-Man to Willem Dafoe as Norman Osbourne/Green Goblin to J.K Simmons as J.Jonah Jameson. I absolutely loved it and I still do. I'm hoping The Amazing Spider-Man is the best Spider-Man film yet. Then again, I'm gonna be a little biased with The Lizard as the villain. But depends on the performance.
