Chris Columbus to Direct Superman?

I wonder how that would work?Columbus is a prominent producer/director who has been around over 25 years.I can't see him working under the creative direction of Nolan, who has only been around for the lat few years.

I haven't seen much of his work, but I like this entry from Wikipedia:

"The character types preferred by Columbus are the everyday American men, women and children who struggle to uphold family traditions against a changing, sometimes intimidating society.In 1993 he said: "I can understand the validity of showing people the ugliness of the world, but I also think there is a place for movies to leave people with a sense of hope. If your film isn't going to do that, I just don't think it's worth making.""

I really think that's the direction a Superman movie should take.That's a great attitude for the filmmaker to have.

Chris Columbus is actually a pretty good option for director. He knows how to bring a certain level of "heart" into his films, and can film action sequences fairly well. He's not who I'd initially have in mind to direct this movie, but if he did get the job, I'd be pretty satisfied

Chris could do it. It seems David got told that his directing sucks and the studios shot down his dreams.

Jeez - the guys films are just so cold and corporate feeling. He directs by numbers.

Would be really surprised if the Nolans picked this guy.

Why not give it to Tarentino. That would be one kick ass Superman. We might actually see Supes just punch right through someones head. jk =D

He CAN direct a franchise AND he discovered America, so Chris Columbus IS qualified to direct Superman.

I can kinda sorta see him directing it, but he would have to step up his A-game to do SUPERMAN!!!!

On the OTHER hand, Percy J. was a sweet film..

So... they get Nolan to produce because his Batman films were dark and gritty yet realistic... and they publically state that this time around, they want to "unleash" Superman... and the ONE guy they think of to direct this dark, gritty, realistic and unleashed Superman... is the "Home Alone/Mrs. Doubtfire/Harry Potter" guy?

Don't get me wrong though, i personally think the man has a lot of talent and experience and even though most might not agree on here, i've enjoyed quite a few of his family films including the ones i already mentionned. Hell, some of them were instant classics! But none of his films fit what WB seemed to be going for. I really don't see what Columbus has that Singer doesn't. I wouldn't even be surprised if he wanted to keep the superkid around when we all know that its the ONE thing that needs retconning the most!

Now if WB is back peddling to make the next Superman film a light hearted family film à la "Lois & Clark", which i personally wouldn't light torches & sharpen pitch forks for, then i don't think they could have found a better director. But i would HIGHLY prefer a more young adult oriented film with plenty of action directed by JJ Abrams. I wouldn't want him to write it, but i don't think there's a better director out there to turn this aching franchise into an action powerhouse that isn't just about "Baysplosions".

Please. God. No. More. 3D. Seriously, I can't wait until this fad dies off again, just as it did in the '50s and the '80s.

As for Columbus? I've seen things he wrote or directed that I enjoyed, including the Goonies (one of the many classic films of the 80s), Mrs. Doubtfire, and Young Sherlock Holmes (even if the ending was a little silly). Another movie he directed I didn't see mentioned- the classic "Adventures in Babysitting", which should be in your Wal-Mart's $5 bin- money well spent if you've never seen the movie.

Columbus might be a nice counter-balance to Nolan. I'd damn sure trust him over bringing Singer back. We'll see if this turns out to be true.
