EDITORIAL: Man of Steel Building Hype

But even with it's ensemble list of directors and producers, can anyone make this superhero relevant again?

First of all I know that there are many Superman fans out there, and you should know that I have always enjoyed Clark Kent’s adventures in print. The problem with Hollywood’s adaptations of Superman is that they are constantly trying to remake the last film. The last Superman (Returns) didn’t shock me, didn’t let me down, or surprise me at all. It was exactly what I expected a film about a man with god-like powers to be about. Oh you struggle with a rock called kryptonite?-if someone possesses it they can grip a penny fist full of it and mimic your strength?-ok, hover out of arm’s length and hit him with the laser beam. Problem solved.

The problem with Superman is that the writers have built in so many extra powers as the years have gone by; on film he just looks ridiculous. When I first heard that the new film was going to be titled “Man of Steel”, I knew it couldn’t be true, but I sincerely hoped that the film would in some way be about one of the Superman wannabe’s from the 90’s comic series “the Death of Superman.” For example, the actual Man of Steel (with the hammer). Or maybe even the cyborg. Either would be fresh, believable, new, original, or believable; anything but another remake of the same old, ridiculous, and outdated Superman.

I welcome your comments.

Lol, I hope too...and you are right about DC, it seems like they are terrified to use any of their other characters. Why not a Hawkman? A Green Arrow? Aquaman? If you are going to keep remaking Superman, then at least recreate how you portray the character.

Even better, how about a Flash?

LOL You actually wanted a Steal movie? They already did that crap with Shaq in the 90's and was the worst CBM ever. No thanks. Also you bitch about Superman being over powered well Thor is even more OP then Superman. Have you ever bitched about Thor? There has never been a really good adaptation of Clark Kent/Superman from the comics in a movie, my hope is that in this movie that is what we will get.

@Dmon - You obviously forgot Thor is a god you retard. Of course he's "Overpowered". Quit whining.

No real Superman fan would write such an article. If you don't like Superman, then don't watch.
I get it. Batman is trendy right now because of the Nolan films and Superman is considered "outdated" although he's only a few years older than Batman. Whatever.
Superman is ridiculous? Oh right and a grown man in a Bat costume is not? You're writing skills are ridiculous chump. Your boring, tired and recycled ideas are ridiculous. All of you can complain and talk smack about Superman all you want but I know you people will be the first ones in line pretending like you have always been a Superman fan. Just wait and see. It wasn't all that long ago that Batman was considered uncool (Clooney) but now every annoying emo kid loves Batman.
I love Batman too but come on! Superman is just plain good. Superman is the first and the best.

Lol....DoctorStealhammer, I'm sorry I offended you and Pux with my "bad" article. But before either of you attack my grammar or writing, perhaps you should paste your own comments in a word processor before you post. If I was a good writer, afterall, I'd write a good Superman movie and not spend time as a fan complaining about the garbage they've been feeding us. Btw, Super Joe, is that a picture of you? Just asking since according to that guy "I'm" the tool. Thank you for your comments.

First, I doubt Man of Steel will be the same "ridiculous, outdated" Superman, you have to remember Superman the movie came out in 1978. The Superman that Chris Reeves portrayed was one from a different era, this new movie will most likely be a combination of the New 52 Supes and Post crisis Supes. Which means he won't be as powerful as the one shown in those movies, or in the comics of that era. also the Nolans and company have clearly stated that this movie will have nothing to do with the Donner films.Secondly, I don't believe he is outdated, I think he is still pretty relevant and will continue to be as long as there are fans.

I also feel that anyone who truly believes he is outdated and non relevant doesn't know the character very well

TheDude, that's what I'm hoping...and if Nolan dials it down a bit then perfect! That's what I meant by saying that the movie should be about a different type of Superman. You said it best really though dude.

Dude this article was poorly written and just unnecessary Superman is by far one of the most recognizable heroes in history and to say he's outdated is just illogical.

I think what they really need to do is just make Doomsday the movie. And kill Superman on the big screen. I love Superman but nothing is more exciting than seeing your hero being pushed to the brink.
Dmon
Dmon - 4/19/2012, 6:13 PM
@SmellofDuty You are the retard. Thor/Asgardians in Marvel are not "Traditional" gods they are more like aliens. And Superman is an alien. So since no one has ever met an alien or even a god, all you can go by is how they are written and in that aspect Thor is written way more OP compared to Superman. Hell in DC Superman is no where even near the top in power.

As a fellow and lifelong Superman-fan I can certainly tell you my main problem with ALL of the Superman films (especially Returns) none of them ever had a single bit of action and they never showcased Superman's TRUE power.

No wonder Avengers fans are so goddamn cocky here, because it took WB/DC THIS [frick]ING LONG to finally get Big Blue right and I HOPE this will be the film to fix everything. Because again, no matter how "classic" the donner films were, pretty much there has yet to be a TRUE SUPERMAN MOVIE.

@Smellofduty- I just noticed your immature comment above. You're getting bent out of shape over a [frick]ING COMICBOOK CHARACTER...who's the "retard" huh?

Damn liberals...
