Adressing The Young Boy In Cape (MAN OF STEEL Trailer)

Hey all......

Still not sure if I'm doing this right.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

My fav section of this site is the editorials..... Discussion, conflict, etc.!

Anyways... (Should have said this at the start but I am horrendously drunk... hence the courage to finally do this! so please forgive any errors!)

This post is in regard to some peoples fears, and my own, at seeing the Man Of Steel trailers. Quite early on we are introduced to a shot of a young child with black wavy hair playing in his yard with his dog... he is wearing a red blanket pegged to his shirt. He then adopts classic silver age hero pose, hand on hips, chest out.

I've seen lotsa people freak out about this. "Why if, Superman is the first hero does the kid wear a cape?!", "Why does young Clark imitate a well know American icon before he BECOMES the icon?!" etc. etc.

People. These are the closing shots of the film.

Consider Jor-El's voice-over; "You will give the people an ideal to strive towards...."

I reckon, in my humble opinion, that after Superman makes his public appearence, and let's face it, saves the world, he does it in such an inspiring humanitarian way (i.e. refusing to kill Zod and co. even though the military demands it) that he becomes the poster boy for Truth, Justice and the American Way.

Cut to shots of the military approaching Luthor because they have this wild cannon alien they can't control, Superman adopting the Clark Kent persona so as to protect his loved ones, and little kids all over America inspired not to join the army, but to strive to a higher ideal. To be like Superman.

That, my friends is an origin story.

And that's why I think the kid in the trailer wears a cape!!!!!

Phew! Feedback totally appreciated!

Yeah I don't think the kid in the cape is a young Clark Kent but a kid who has been inspired by Superman. MOS is going to be awesome damn sure of it.

First off, even drunk, your article is much better written than a lot of the articles and editorials I have read here. Kudos.
As to who the boy in the cape is- why couldnt it be Clark emulating comic book heroes and not necessarily "real life" heroes. It would be a cool nod to comicbooks and their loyal fans to have the boy, who would one day be Superman, be inspired by them.

This picture posted from another article on here may disprove this very lovely theory of yours...

i think i said this on another thread... but even if the kid IS clark i think it's kind of cool. maybe it's meant to show that he's got some tiny connection to his homeworld, and buried somewhere in his subconscious is a memory of people wearing capes. i'm picturing the kents watching him through a window and realizing there's a part of him that will never be human.

Hey, am still drunk! I'm Irish it's ok.
Hadn't seen that Scomo. [frick]. Ah well. This it was a good idea though! Also have another idea, the whole panic about when Pa Kent says, "Maybe."

I think that sentence is taken out of context. When Clark asks if he was supposed to let them die, Pa says, "Maybe."

But then he continues on to say something like, "if that's the type of person you want to be. Someone who thinks of himself before others. Someone who could just watch innocent people die. But your not that person Clark."

Then we get the rest of his speech, "You have to decided what kind of man you want to be Clark....."

Uhm, I did that as a kid when I watched Superman the animated Series. Maybe Clark saw it on a cartoon and thought it looked cool.

A ten year old is very impressionable.

For some reason I have a feeling that scene will be cut from the theatrical release...

Nice write up. I hope this is true. But, the dog looks like the Kent's dog so it's probably Clark. I like your idea better though.
