'Brainiac' Rumored For MAN OF STEEL 2; George Miller Said To Be Undecided On Directing

Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller has been given the pick of the litter at Warners if the following is accurate. According to Heroic Hollywood, the director's chair on the planned Man Of Steel sequel - which apparently hasn't been put on "permanent hold" at all and is on track for a 2019/2020 release - is his for the taking, but Miller simply hasn't made up his mind about what his next project will be.

What has him so unsure? Well, word is the studio also likes him for Justice League Dark/Dark Universe now that Guillermo del Toro is no longer helming.

We might also have some idea which villain Supes will be going up against in his next movie: Brainiac. You may remember Zack Snyder's revealing in an interview that before Man Of Steel 2 became Batman V Superman, the evil extraterrestrial android was being lined up as the antagonist - so he definitely seems like the most logical choice, but obviously without so much as a first script draft down it's all subject to change.

I still think Man Of Steel 2 shouldn't be a necessity or priority in WB/DC compacted slate. They already announced a solo film, including a Batman one is in development with no release date. Why anyone took those indefinite hold rumors seriously is beyond me.

But I thought that Brainiac was going to be the antagonist for JL? I guess those rumored leaks were false...which is actually cool with me. I guess they'll be facing off against Darkseid?

Braniac sounds better as a JL villain, but I could see him being in MOS 2. Maybe he could come back for JL 2.

I really would like to see Bizzaro too, but I'm not too completely fond of his backstory. I also believe that Doomsday is set to appear in BvS so I guess that crosses out those plans. There's a lot to Superman's villain gallery that I'm completely still up in the air without knowing about.

@TheOracularNerd Darkseid needs to be saved for part two and even then I'd make an argument why he should be used sparingly. JLP1 should avoid any invasion storyline and bring us something more smashing..

It will be great to see Braniac with Lex against Superman, but his solo film shouldn't just be his. Manhunter should be introduced.

As much as I think George Miller would be great for Dark Universe, I would rather he do Man of Steel 2. Putting Justice League Dark into production now pretty much guarantees that Matt Ryan is done with Constantine after Arrow episode 405 because Arrowverse characters won't be in the movies unless DC makes a Crisis on Infinite Earths film.

Miller needs to do MOS2 and the New Gods should be introduced. Take Supes on those abstract, cosmic adventures. it'll be bracing and awesome and... Miller would just own Apokolips's ominous aesthetic. Imagine Warboys as Parademons and his Female Furies and dystopian, gritty world-building and characters.

Cosmic Odyssey needs to be adapted one day.

Man of Steel 2 probably wont happen for another 5 or 6 years or maybe NEVER!! If you wait too long, and fans start to care more about Batman (most likely), maybe Aquaman and Wonder woman, more than Supes, no one will care about him getting a sequel. The first film was so divisive anyway. Begining your universe with tea up films, hurts Superman in a way. Especially, when he's already had his own film and everyone else needs development so he takes a slight backseat

Does anyone think we'll get a "Martian Manhunter" movie though? It seems like they'll just use one of the JL or solo hero flicks to introduce him into the picture. I think he's a character that could add great emotional depth to their universe. With all of this Mars talk lately in our modern world it would be nice to see something like that play out creatively.
