Henry Cavill Reveals Which Superman Comics Are Preparing Him For Man Of Steel

In an interview with io9, our new Superman speaks a little about preparing for Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel by revealing which comics he has been reading to get himself ready for donning the blue n red..

Henry Cavill was at SDCC last week(or was that two weeks ago now?) speaking about his latest movie Tarsem's Immortals, and showing off his newly dyed black Superman do. So off course a few questions were leveled at the young actor about stepping into the boots and cape of The Man Of Steel in Zack Snyder's currently shooting reboot.

io9 ask him about his preparation for the role..

1o9: How is your Clark Kent coming along?

HC: Coming along very well, thank you.

What comic books did you read to prepare for this character? For Superman?

I read as much as I possibly could, so yeah, I mean I just got the DC Comics app, downloaded as much as I could, got as many of the comic books sent to me in the mail as I could, and just immersed myself in the character as much as possible.

Were there any few authors that you loved the best?

You're going to catch me out on the authors, I'm afraid. I did love Superman: Doomsday, The Death of Superman, Superman Returns, The New Krypton Saga especially, Red Son. Red Son was cool because it had the alternate story line. A lot of them I love, but recently, the one I read most recently was The New Krypton Saga, and I really enjoyed that.

Now of course none of that means any plot elements will be taken from Cavill's reading choices, but I'm sure that wont stop us speculating. I gotta say, I do like his choices anyway. Although conspicuous by it's absence is Superman: Birthright which has long been rumored to have heavily influenced the plot of Snyder's movie. Nothing has officially been confirmed or debunked on that thus far.

Yea he mentioned these same books in another interview too.
It doesn't necessarily mean the film will be anything like them in terms of story or in terms of the type of Clark/Superman is written, but he must've really liked those one.
And I haven't read any of them lol
Well I know what's next on my list now!

I'm expecting an ending similar to War of the Supermen, with the confrontation between Zod and Superman.

Actually, it's much more likely he means the Return of Superman after Doomsday kills him. He's mentioned it twice after mentioned The Death of Superman.

@Dynamo @ZeroEthic you're probably right, either way

If he has read All Star or Birthright it'd be fantastic.
Never know, he might have and just not thought of them on the spot, or they may be on his list yet.

I agree, "What's so funny..." is an amazing story. I'm glad they're making an animated movie out of it.

@MrNoFear
I wouldn't call it important, mostly because it sucks.

Henry Cavill probably should of check up on John Bryne's Man of Steel series and Superman Birthright if he is preping for the role for this movie, concidering the fact its looking like an origin story.

Red Son is such a brillian concept - what if Superman landed on Earth 12 hours earlier or later?

It's called research, it helps prepare the mind for how he'll approach the character.
And if there's mountains of material that'll help him understand this massively popular character he's playing, then reading some is the obvious action.
Acting isn't just memorizing words from a page.

This guy is too boring, he needs to start saying some crazy stuff to get people more excited about this.

"My favorite Superman comic? Well I love all comics actually....except for the ones with that overrated hack Batman or those gay little Avengers".

I was defending the reboot suit because it was still the basic make up and colorof the classic suit. But I started to see all this metal and shit on it. I don't understand what it's supposed to be made out of. The boots look metal, but then there's some hard looking material on the shirt. How could you move around in that? If they add armor to the movie suit, it has the potential to be very retarded. Superman doesn't need armor.

First they need to get Supes off Earth and stop with Orgin stories, stop with the Luthor as a main character ish,its time to expand on Supes make it a space epic,bring in Lobo or someone or something.The Supes Lane Love Story has been seen a million times over

If he wants to read a good comic with a more modern Superman, he should read Superman: For Tomorrow vols. 1 and 2

I thought For Tomorrow was viciously uninteresting lol
