Henry Cavill Trying Not To Watch Other Superman Movies While Filming Man Of Steel

In a recent interview Henry Cavill said that he is trying to avoid watching old Superman movies and footage and relying on the comic book to draw his inspiration for the character.

Henry Cavill recently sat down with Empire magazine where he talked a little bit about preparing for his role of Superman in the upcoming movie Man Of Steel. Cavill says that between training, studying source material, and meetings he barely has any time to sleep. He also stated that he is avoiding watching other Superman films and trying to rely on comic books to really tap in to Superman's character.

"A lot of people are relying on me to do the job properly. I tend to avoid focusing on the pressure and just do the job. And that involves a lot of man-hours."

"Training, training, training - of various types - study, source material study, meetings, costume meetings, costume meeting and then tea! They're 24-hour days. You just don't sleep. At all. Ever."

"When you're doing an origin story, and a reinvention of the franchise, I certainly want to avoid watching too much of the films done previously, or other moving footage, because you can start picking up character traits of other actors' interpretations."

"The truest source of Superman is the comic books, and I want to immerse myself in those, and bring out what I can bring out from that."

Personally I like that he is relying on comic books instead of movies to develop his own character for the film What do you guys think, as usual sound off in the comment boxes below.

Man Of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Julia Ormond, Russell Crowe, Laurence Fishburne with Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, and will be released on June 14, 2013.

That's cool. Wonder how broad a variety of comic-books he's reading. I can't believe he said tea. I thought British people liking tea so much was a rumor. lmao

Well in the south it's all about brewed ice-tea.

I wouldn't say that the prior Supermen were terrible, but they certainly have had their ups and downs..

I think he should be watching animated movies personally along with reading comics.I dont think I've ever seen Superman portrayed bad in those. Superman TAS, Doomsday, and Apocalypse are the main things I think he should watch.. stay away from the live action movies though

@ Greengo

Some parts of England call dinner 'tea'.

The constant tea drinking is more common among people over 60 these days.

Awesome. Cavill is a great guy and seems like an actual comic fan.

And with Zack Snyder directing, this is probably gonna be the best yet, aside from Richard Donner's final cut of Superman 2.

Have a feeling that this will be like the 1939 Superman and much like the Fleischer cartoons! Looking forward to it.

Its good Cavill is going with the comics. Thats the best source.

@thegoddamsuperguy Dean Cain was the best Clark? Are u serious? If u closed ur eyes and listen to him talk you couldnt tell Cains Clark or Superman apart. Its like he didnt even act diffrent. If any Clark was good it was Reeves, his voice was higher and his mannerisms were diffrent. Hes trying to keep a secret identity remember.

This guy's the right choice! He's doing all the right things to prepare for the role.
Although Rip Taylor would have been a brilliant choice too.

You mean, he's going to the source material to form his interpretation? Wow. Does this mean the gods of Hollywood have to kill him now?

Dean Cain was the best Superman after Christopher Reeve. He had a fresh take on the character and played the two roles much in the same way George Reeve did on the original "Superman" TV series. There's no law that says that Clark HAD to be played like a bumbler or nerd the way Christopher Reeve did, he just chose to do it that way and was effective at it.

I always knew Cavill was the best man for the job. He has the perfect attitude for it and really wants to do a great job to appease the fans.

I agree with @THABATMAN, watching the animated Superman films and TAS will definitely help his cause. That is the epitome of Superman in every way. I would love to see that Superman brought to life!

I also agree with KNIGHT3000, I really wished they would've gone with the classic suit. That's a really big downer. This new suit does feel "alternate". I still have hope for this film though. I'm 100% sure that Cavill will deliver as Superman and be the best actor so far to play the iconic role.

I'm stoked he lost the underwear. Here on Earth we wear our undee's under our pants. It just doesn't make any sense to wear briefs over your pants. The FF made this move years ago-and the X-Men too.

Cavill's doin' it right.

And yes, Dean Cain was a good Supes. Very different from everything else done before him. Cain had zero of Reeves' traits, and to me, that was awesome. A different take.
