MAN OF STEEL 2: Warner Bros. Turned Down A Sequel Pitch From PEAKY BLINDERS Scribe Steven Knight

It seems Warner Bros. has been mulling over a Man of Steel project for quite a bit longer than we realised, with Steven Knight's name now added to the list of filmmakers unsuccessful in wowing the studio.

It's become apparent this week that Man of Steel 2 is no longer guaranteed to happen. Henry Cavill's return as Superman in Black Adam suggested there might be big plans in place for the actor's take on the hero, but that all changed when James Gunn and Peter Safran were tapped to serve as the co-CEOs of DC Studios.

While they may still want to make another Superman movie with Cavill, it sounds like the Man of Tomorrow has landed himself in a bigger mess than Metropolis after the hero's battle with Doomsday.

Walter Hamada's plan had been to build anticipation for Cavill's Superman return by writing him out of reality in The Flash before he took centre stage in a Crisis on Infinite Earths movie. Dwayne Johnson then decided to take matters into his own hands, though, bringing Cavill in for a cameo that primarily benefited Black Adam

None of that really matters with new leadership in place, but prior to their hiring, Steven Knight penned a treatment for a Man of Steel follow-up back in the fall.

He's best known for creating TV shows like Peaky Blinders and See, while he's also written hit movies like Eastern Promises and Spencer. Unfortunately, The Hollywood Reporter says Warner Bros. executives were less than thrilled by what he came up with, sending the writer away with notes.

"Before things could go to the next level," the trade adds, "which may or may not have included hiring another writer given Knight’s very busy schedule, Gunn and Safran were hired, and development promptly ended."

We're assuming this was separate from the project Man of Steel producer Charles Roven pitched to the studio and, if one thing has become clear, it's that they want to get Superman right. With Gunn and Safran now calling the shots, we're sure that will be the case...as for who will play Supes, your guess is as good as ours.

Man of Steel was a fairly good start to a universe, where they f’d up was the casting department, Mamoa shoulf havr been Lobo from the get go, no leto no jesse eisenburg, no ezra, no affleck, feels like DC and Marvel rushing to beat eachother first with the civil war/batman v superman movies kind of derailed potential in both franchises

@Matchesz - I'd argue MoS wasn't even the start of the universe. MoS was clearly designed to be a single hero in a world without none. Like a Raimi Spiderman, TASM or even The Dark Knight trilogy. WB just wanted a universe so badly that they "forced", it into a world that wasn't made for it.

Wonder where we'd be had they continued Superman's arc from MOS in MOS2 if it was made next?
Hopefully we get more Superman in the next iteration of the DC Universe and it is more Superman centric
