After seening man of steel tonight on post in Fort Polk, LA, I have to be honest I'm still sitting here gathering my thoughts on MOS. My mind is totally blown. It was awesome! I'm not going to spoil the movie by giving away any spoilers specifically but I will comment on a few things.

The movie starts at a perfect point that no matter what level of fan boy or girl your going to immediately understand whats going on. I will say that Snyder used a military demolitions recipe when it comes to action, "P" for PLENTY! From that point on you can absolutely tell where the creative minds of Goyer and Nolan stepped in just by the feel and the way they used the films current scenarios to reminisce as to why that particular moment was special.

There are definitely some moments that will tug at your heart. MOS really focuses and uses the common sense approach on things by grounding the emotions that a young Clark or seasoned Pa&Ma Kent feel. However there are some minor super speed plot holes that make the movie feel like its got a slight Heart MurMur from time to time. As I continue to process things MOS had a good flow even with the hiccups.

Keep in mind I'm a totally supes fan but I feel as a fan of the DCU, WB's got to get their crap together if they want to contend in a cinematic comic world. With that said it did feel like the crew knew that those smalls holes where there because they where all very well recovered from by action and story. I will say that Snyder was right. This is the first time Superman has been delivered like this, and I agree no apologies are needed.

Finally, The one minor spoiler I will say is be prepared to come out your seat at the end. I loved it, I hated it, as a current active duty soldier who's been in combat I totally understand it, and im totally confused as to where that places supes at now...... I'm rambling............ CRAP MOS was EPIC! Over all I have to say I loved the movie It took all the best and worst of Superman and made it awesome. In my opinion Warner Bro. better get ready to make a positive announcement on the DCU future........... Daddy is back!

It is absolutely a different feel than the avengers and although I am a huge fan of Avengers, MOS was Better! As for comparing with TDK&TDKR, I wouldn't say its better but it is definitely in the same league as far as quality. Michael Shannon's performance as Zod is out of this world. If you ever have been TRULY passionate about something in your life you will relate to this portrayal of ZOD. This movie is up there. WAY UP THERE!

Let me be clear as Crystal, I grew up with Christopher Reeves version and it will always hold a special place in my heart, I liked Superman Returns mostly because I LOVE SUPERMAN, however I still wanted to cry with disappointment after, but Henry Cavil IS SUPERMAN! Shannon's Zod is worthy of Hollywood accolades. Yes Its better than Mr. Stamps point blank. Both in character and performance. We all know this is a comic book movie but the way it was approached I found myself saying as a Soldier, Father, Human, That's what I would do if I was in that position as someone visiting earth or born on it. All performances are very grounded.

The pre invasion portion is absolutely stunning. I will say things are fast and furious. Snyder could have easily made a GREAT 2 1/2 hour movie on the relationship of Jor-EL, Zod and Krypton. LOTS OF ACTION!

The Pace is slightly faster but comprehensive. Snyder could have easily made this 3+ hours. My only complaint would be that because of the fast pace sometimes scenes seemed incomplete or like there was more to expound upon. However it’s fluid and works. I may be being very picky but I think it’s our job as fans to do that so Snyder ups the bar for MOS2.

Can you explain a bit more on the comparison on the Origin with IM & BB. Also how do you see the DCcU after this?

Has this movie set the bar above all CBM?

What stories do you think have influenced MOS?

Finally....I loved The Avengers...but it lacked tension and drama....How does MOS handle this?

As I’m sure you know, it’s impossible to turn my heart against ol’ big blue, However I can stand firm with my opinion. MOS was great!
My rating scheme:

Delivery -#1, Yes it was fast but it’s the right pace. I think they found the “recipe”

Action -#1, Of ALL CMB’s I have ever seen, which is a lot, MOS has the most action ever……… EVER. And not meaningless beat downs either, action with a story.

Origin Story -#1, Tied with BB and IM. You can tell what creative team worked on the story. I think Nolan and Goyer have got the origin recipe down packed.

Overall Story -#2 behind TDK, Let me see it again on the 13th, this could change

Characters -#1, Some characters aren’t fully developed/touched on but I believe if they were it would have taken away from what Snyder’s intent was. To tell a story about the MOS.

Acting -#1, I judge this by looking at my 3 and 6 year olds and watching them play since last night……They believe a man can fly, hell I’m 32 and I do too!

Overall Movie - #1 tied with TDK (again, let me see it again on the 13th, this could change)

I don't want to come across as if I'm trying to say this movie is like any other. However it does share a few traits of IM and BB such as giving a good flow to the story, and delivering a good origin film/back-story without boring us to death. Also the ability to display why characters are the way they are both physically, mentally, and emotionally in a sufficient amount of time.

As far as the DCCU, all I will say is the ingredients are there. Keep your eyes peeled! Heck I think they can totally do whatever they (WB) wants now. Superman can "Save them, Save all of them".

In my opinion this movie is the gold standard. It does have flaws and minor loop holes right now but for all we know Snyder/Nolan/Goyer may have left gaps for a reason. As CMB fans we love most comic book movies even when they are horrible. This presents a problem for ticket sales and directors. The fact is your cant just depend on the fan boy or girl. You have to make a movie that not only can the fellow Geeks understand and relate with, but the other viewer also who may not give two craps about any part of our comic world and may have just been towed to the movies. MOS has bridged that gap.

As far as influences I think parts of the new 52 Superman was used, Red Son , Birthright, Smallville, lol yes the show, and few others. Honestly I think this crew, cast and the WB staff did their homework. Its obvious they looked at everything and picked and pulled the best. The story of "Kal" has never been told like this

To comment on the tension and drama, OMG it's there, its absolutely there. I have been debating with fellow Geeks all morning both Marvel and DC alike and the one question that keeps repopulating is "what would you have done if you where him" Believe me its all there.

I knew Superman would kill Zod ever since I saw the scene where the black zero's gravity beam destroys a chunk of metropolis, its like john byrnes "Man of Steel" series where Zod kills billions of people on earth and Superman has no choice but to kill him & the phantom zone prisoners.

WOW this is a tough one. Henry Cavil's performance is amazing and totally believable. I could go on and on about his version of the MOS and I would be selling him short. Michael Shannon's performance was out of control awesome. Its believable, crazy, and understandable! I think for me I'm going to have to give it to Michael Shannon's Zod.

I have a friend in the Marines who saw it, he absolutely hated it, mentioning the plot holes all over the place. We tend to agree on movies a lot so I came out a bit worried.

I'm taking someone I like very much to it very soon so I'm hoping if I keep my hopes low enough it will exceed in the end no matter what. Sort of glad to see not everyone agrees though.

But what other movies do you like?

Oh, come on! I still do not see the movie and I can already tell that the plot will. Maybe your friend like another kind of movies, but I do not think this story is so complex as to have many plot holes, is not DK Rises for god sake, and I love DKR.
I think it's best to see it first and then give an opinion, but start commenting that "my friend did not like it" is not very serious for the way. For my part I will not believe that those who want this film to fail. I hope you're not one of them.

Your friend is right, there are a few plot holes. In my mind all CBM's have them. What's more important is how well the story carries on after. There is absolutely no way you can tell a complete origin story and progress to a good stopping point in a little over 2 hours and not have some holes. Just remember the reference matterial they are pulling from, graphic novels, mutiple comic series, ect. I think MOS recovers well from these holes. Plus some of the holes seemed left out intentionally, maybe they will be filled in later.

As far as what movies I like. If you speaking solely about CBM I will have to say the entire TDK trilogy with TDK being the front runner is my number 1, 2- Inception, Thor, Spiderman 2, JJ Abrams Star Trek, and the list goes on.

Movies that make we beat my head against the wall although I will watch them pretty often
