Man of Steel was released in 2013 to mixed reviews, though for fans, Zack Snyder's movie was a welcome change of pace. There were some controversial moments in the blockbuster, but after Tom Welling spent years avoiding Superman's costume at all costs and the relatively action-free Superman Returns, the reboot was a definite improvement.

Regardless of the divisive final battle, something everyone seemed to love was the lengthy opening scene exploring Krypton's destruction.

Russell Crowe played Jor-El and we followed him as he did everything within his power to save the planet before ultimately having to send his son, Kal-El, to Earth.

There were once rumblings that a Krypton prequel movie was in the works, but it never seemed to get off the ground. Now, Crowe has weighed in on that and admits he hoped to make the Jor-El-led project a reality for a time.

"I think that you know, those kinds of conversations happen all the time," Crowe told Happy Sad Confused. "You know, once somebody has something like that going and you know how else you can sort of make things out, I would have loved to have done like a Jor-El story pre the Superman story."

"[With] him and [General Zod] our friends and the buildup of the political tension...that would have been interesting."

It's definitely a shame this spin-off didn't happen, though we did get to better explore the planet in the short-lived Krypton TV show. That had a similar aesthetic to what we saw in Man of Steel but was somewhat hampered by its small screen budget.

As for Crowe, he's getting another shot at the superhero movie genre with a role in Kraven the Hunter. Last year, the actor also played Zeus in Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder

Would you have liked to see Crowe take centre stage in a Jor-El movie?

A prequel directed by Ridley Scott and starring Crowe would have been great.

This studio's stupidity has NEVER ceased to amaze me. There most likely opportunity for a billion dollar film was Man of Steel 2, and a tie in Krypton series would have been a much needed boost for the streaming service. When I look up the word "DUMB" in the dictionary...this is what we should see..

Did anyone read the last days of Krypton by Kevin J Anderson? Was a great read and could easily be adapted into a movie - unless the Krypton was that adaptation? I didn't see the show.

He was one of the very best parts of Man of Steel. A prequel, or at least a sequel with loads more flashbacks would have been incredible.

So the Pope's exorcist is a fun, bad movie to get stoned to. And it's all because of Crowe. He makes bad films entertaining.
