MICHAEL SHANNON

Excerpt from interview with moviefone.com
You're the perfect age to remember Terence Stamp's take on General Zod from 'Superman II.' How are you not influenced by that while playing the same character?

Yeah! It's funny, I've recently seen bits and pieces of him doing it and it's very intimidating. But I just have to start from scratch. I mean, I've got a different script, I've got a different director and I'm acting with different people. And I just can't let it... I mean, it would be a shame if I let it inhibit my creativity. I mean, you look at 'Hamlet'... at least I'm not playing Hamlet. With that part you have 5000 genius interpretations of it over hundreds of years it's been around. I only have to look down one interpretation -- no matter how iconic it may be.

Will we see the rage?

Sh-t, I don't know. I gotta see. I mean, anybody who plans all of this stuff out in advance is not generally going to give a performance which you're going to want to see very much, probably.

Michael Shannon talks about the visual effects with HITFLIX
"You see some crazy stuff, you know? Every time you shoot something, there's a whole series of shots that accompanies every shot. So we'll shoot my big showdown with you, like here at the table. Then they have to shoot a clean plate. So me and you get up and leave and they shoot an empty room. Then they have to shoot the balls. They have a shiny ball and a dull ball. And they shoot those like where your head is and where my head is. And then they have this cube, that's like made up of orange straws. And they shoot the cube.

"I don't know what they're doing. I honestly don't know what they're doing, but like, for every shot that you do, there's like six more shots afterwards that's just completely about the computer side. I like the visual effects coordinator, DJ, he's a really nice guy. He's on set all the time. I jokingly told him, he came up and said, 'You're doing a great job,' and I said, 'It's very nice of you to give me some credit for what this film's going to be. Because I'm sure ultimately you're going to be running the show.'"

Michael Shannon is a master of saying so much without saying anything. When his lazy eye slowly snakes from one side to the other and his brow compresses just slightly he says so much more than most actors ever could. The quiet restrained rage that he flaunts on Boardwalk Empire is impressive, and it clearly caught the attention of Hollywood and especially Zack Snyder.

To be honest I've never wanted to see Zod or Luthor since Superman's rogue gallery is much deeper then the movie franchise would have you believe, but Shannon might sway my opinion on Zod. As for the new rumors that Luthor would be making an appearance that irritates me.

Man Of Steel, starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Julia Ormond, Russell Crowe, Laurence Fishburne with Christopher Meloni and Harry Lennix, the reboot is slated for theaters June 14th, 2013!

Good stuff, I hope this movie will be a big hit, especially since it won't be out until 2013, right?

That anger thing he does is awesome, especially for Zod, he dosent go around screaming all the time its more of a calm rage that u see bubbling underneath that could explode any moment, like in Boardalk Empire, now that could really scare the shit out of you and is perfect for someone like General Zod.

Michael Shannon will be a great Zod.

As for Luthor...Nailbiter my friend...IF they bring in Luthor it will only be a cameo and...to be fair he hasn't had a decent portrayal...YET. If he appears I'm certain the actor and the script would sway you into liking the character for the film.

If Lex is in the movie I'm sure he'll be within the same vein as Shannon's Zod and Cavill's Superman...in other words- something COMPLETELY new and different that we've never ever seen before.

Also it mean- no more real-estate. That just aint Lex and was sadly...a very pathetic clung-to reminder of the Donner Superman movies. If Lex appears he'll be more like in the comics and cartoons- wealthy, smart and BADASS. =D

I'm really excited to see Shannon's portrayal of Zod - I never thought I would've ever said that! But it's true. Reading and watching his interviews really makes me interested in what he is gonna do with the role! This is EXCITING!!

I agree with LP4 (who has magically reappeared btw lol). I would love to see Lex in a cameo. He deserves it. I just want an intimidating Lex. Not an old ass man who uses real estate to get rich with a bunch of doofuses around him.

I can not wait for this movie!!! SUPERMAN 2013!! XD

I'd like to see more than just a cameo from Lex. Maybe introduce him and give him a small part showing him build up hatred towards superman and possibly lead up to an MOS sequel. My anticipation is growing more and more for this movie.
